All-electric Rolls-Royce Spectre set for deliveries by 2023

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has announced that it is commencing on-road testing of its first fully electric car.

The new electric car - named the Spectre - is claimed to be the finest super-luxury product of its type.

No further powertrain details have been revealed as yet, however, Rolls-Royce does state that the new car will be tested in plain sight, and that testing of the newmodel is set to cover over 2.5 million kilometres - which is more than 400 years of use for a Rolls-Royce on average. Testing for the new car will also cover all four corners of the globe, pushing the new car right to the limit.

The Rolls-Royce Spectre will also be underpinned by the firm's proprietary aluminium architecture, first revealed in 2017 with the Phantom. It states that the use of a platform that is free of any group platform sharing strategy has allowed it to integrate its plans for an electric powertrain directly into the architecture's initial design, ensuring that the new Spectre will meet the high expectations of its clients.

Rolls-Royce formerly revealed the 102EX, a fully-operational all-electric Phantom, in 2011, as well as the all-electric 103EX, a concept car which represented the firm's vision for a sustainable future in 2016.

Customers can expect to take delivery of the first Rolls-Royce Spectres in the last quarter of 2023.
