From the umbrellas in the doors (complete with their own drying system), to the intricate detailing on the RR badges, there's hundred's of tiny details that make up "the world's finest motorcar".
Sure, the BMW 7-Series is more powerful. The Audi A8 looks better, and the Mercedes S-Class is more economical. But, do any of those cars have a hand-assembled clock with a Britannia Silver bezel?
What makes a Rolls Royce special is the attention to detail. And to celebrate the centennial anniversary of its iconic Spirit of Ecstasy…hood ornament, Rolls Royce is building a special run of 100 "Centenary Collection" Phantom's.
And of course, each car gets a dizzying array of tiny details.
To start, the Flying Lady hood ornament is silver plated, with a black gold-plated base, bearing the inscription "Spirit of Ecstasy Centenary - 2011". The cover plate that appears when the hood ornament is lowered also bears that inscription.
There's new reverse colour badges on the boot lid, and wings, featuring white enameled RR insignias on a black chromed background. And, there's a quote by the Spirit of Ecstasy designer Charles Sykes embossed on the leather lining of…the glove box lid.
"A graceful little goddess, the Spirit of Ecstasy, who has selected road travel as her supreme delight and alighted on the prow of a Rolls-Royce motor car to revel in the freshness of the air and the musical sound of her fluttering draperies." - Charles Sykes, 1911
The analog clock in the dash features the Centenary inscription on the face, along with 6 hallmarks designed for the Centenary Collection cars. And, there's also a small Britannia Silver plaque on the centre console lid, bearing the inscription, and the car's build number.
The available colours are best described by Rolls Royce themselves; "Four exterior colour options are offered, all exclusive to Spirit of Ecstasy Centenary Collection cars. These start with Rhapsody Black, a black metallic incorporating a delicate gold sparkle and Maiden Blue a deep blue metallic highlighted with a silver sparkle. Ethereal White Pearl comes with a special pearlescent finish while Wildflower completes the bespoke paint offering, presenting a rich blend of red and brown colour with a fine sparkle.
Each exterior colour can be ordered with a selection of sumptuous leather and interior contrast schemes while hand crafted banding of Britannia Silver will be delicately inset into the customer's chosen veneer.
Owners will also receive a desk ornament with their cars and a polished steel Spirit of Ecstasy mounted on a piano black base. These will be presented with individual certificates of authenticity signed by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös."
