Shell has opened the first High-Performance Charging station of its cross-country EV charging network for South East Asia.
When completed, this network will be the first high-performance charging network in South East Asia.
The Shell High-Performance Charging station at Tangkak, Johor comprises of two charging stations with a maximum charge rate of 180kW Equipped with two charge points, the first charging station is located at Tangkak, Johor, Malaysia. It is the first of a total of 12 charge points for a total of six Shell stations currently planned for the network in Malaysia, all located along the North-South highway.
Four more of these stations, sgCarMart understands, will open by the first quarter of 2022. All six stations, including the one at Tangkak, Johor, are outfitted with 180kW direct-current chargers, although you can expect charging rates to slow down if both chargers are used simultaneously.
At 180kW, a Porsche Taycan can be charged from zero to 80% battery capacity in around 30 minutes, providing up to 390km of extra travel distance. For context, that's a high enough rate to get you the charge to ferry you from Shell Tangkak to LegoLand Malaysia in Nusajaya with just slightly more than 10 minutes of charging.
Shell Recharge High-Performance Charging pay-per-use users will pay RM20 for every five minutes of stay at the charger. Malaysian EV customers will also be able to register for Shell Recharge Gold subscription plan, which includes a 40% discount rate for the first 10 hours per year.
Furthermore, Porsche Taycan owners will be automatically registered as Platinum members as part of a partnership programme between Shell and Porsche, entitling them to value-added benefits from Shell in both Singapore and Malaysia. These include an exclusive discount rate of $0.10/kWh off the prevailing retail rate in Singapore beginning from 16 February 2022.
In Malaysia, they will be entitled a 50% discount rate for the first 12 hours per year. The Shell's ParkEasy app in Malaysia further allows EV customers to reserve the charging bay up to 60 minutes in advance.
