Reviews from Owning a Colt Ver R '09 (Still Driving) `
|
|
Pros:
1. Punchy Turbo Engine
2. Head turner (Probably due to the Loud Cat Back exhaust on mine when I took over)
3. A few of these that were tuned, zhng'd and been let off for sale
4. Perfect for those that likes to play with No. 3^
5. Known as Pocket Rocket, really performs like one
Cons:
1. Hard to find spare parts due to obsolete car model
2. Car is stiff, need to get used to.
3. Only a few workshops had dealt with Colts
4. May end up getting one with bad servicing records
5. May left with those that were once a 'Project' by previous owners
6. Have some blind spot due to the interior design, need to be extra careful on the road

Meant for the racetrack, yet practical on the roads. `

Having driven alot of cars in the past, the Colt Ralliart version R is one of the most fun cars to drive. This car is pretty much inspired by Mits rally experience and built for driving and for real driving lovers. You will get a hint of its racing heritage with that precise steering, deep exhaust and stiff body.
The car is pretty much as well-equiped as the regular Colt and Colt plus with various sensors and features which is a plus point for a hot hatch. the cabin size is good enough for a small family.
The power of the 1.5 Mivec Turbo packs quite a punch and youll see yourself dueling and surprising the larger 2.0-2.5 cars out there. This is one car that will leave the traffic behind. From stop to start and in the highway alike. The max torque kicks in at 2.5k RPM and its an ease to drive in the traffic of Singapore. Filtering, climbing up highway is a non-existent issue.
The handling of the car is improved with stiffer suspensions and a reinforced chassis with bars, braces and extra spot weldings. Turning in tight corners are precise and confident. The car has high CG and you may get a sense of bodyroll which might put you into safe mode, but once you get familiar and get the hang of it, you will trust the chassis and grippy tires and then you will unleash its true in cornering potential.
The only drawback for the Colt Version R is the CVT gearbox. For most enthusiast this is a put off as a real car is meant to be driven manual. The CVTs rubberband effect is a linear an smooth acceleration so dont expect too much kick back that will throw you into the seat. But if you compare the speedometer the car actaully does go as fast. Although the CVT provides a 6 speed steptronic but its more useful in the corners where you downshift to get the correct speed to move into the apex and upshift to pull away from the corners. Using the steptronic for dragging is useless and better to just stick to D.
Overall, fun fill drive that you can bring to the racetracks and yet enjoy the city driving without much worry about the fuel consumption. Thanks to the efficient CVT you can expect an average of 12-13km/l which is a rare feat for a turbo-charged car. Athough the price of this car is on the higher side and comparable to some of the cheapest MPVs, its still the cheapest turbocharged cars in available the current SG market.

Try the Manual instead! `

Not much fun for the CVT version. Acceleration isn't so great, feels more like a 2 litre engine in a small car.
Handling can be much better, as the Version R in stock standard form, clocks a time on track that is not much different from a normal 1.5 Colt with mildly tuned engine and enhanced handling.
The manual version seems much better, so try that instead.
