Consumer Car Reviews
I would like to share my personal view on this SUV after owning 5 brand new Sedans from popular and common brands such as Japanese and Korean cars. The previous ride was a CLA180 mild hybrid (2023). Yes, I drove that CLA180 for a year and switched to the new GLB180 mild hybrid! The CLA180 is a nice car and I like it very much, but I still prefer a higher and spacious car which is a more practical choice as a family car. I still chose Mercedes because of the brand, even entry class gives me the feel of premium to an average family man like me.
Prior owning my first Mercedes, I always think the money can buy other brands which offer more power, size, better fuel efficiency, etc. At much lower price tag, but I found what I want after driving the Mercedes. Many of my friends doubtfully asking why I didn't chose a Tesla/BYD which are higher tech, handsome, fast like a bullet train, no gas required and even cheaper than this? My answers; I have no personal charging station at home as I am not staying on landed property and I do not want to spend time charging in public. So far I have owned the GLB180 for a month and am very happy about it.
Despite the KONA being one of the lower-priced compact SUV available in the market today, even for the Elite trim which I got, you are getting a very futuristic looking car with excellent fuel efficiency, packed load with features.
Ventilated seats are godsend in SG weather and relaxation seats are an amazing plus when waiting in the car. With a light-coloured interior, sunroof, and open centre console (due to gear shift being relocated behind the steering wheel), the car feels very spacious and is a nice place to stay in for long. Not forgetting the dual 12-inch displays with an extremely responsive touchscreen, ambient lighting, automatic power adjusted seats and intuitive physical buttons for the media and aircon controls.
Exterior of the car looks specular, particularly if you get it in a dark colour like ecotronic grey or black which blends with the fenders to get a very cohesive look. The car makes very cute faces in the front (looks like your -__- emoji) and rear (looks like a catfish with the rear lamps as the eyes). At night or under dark conditions, it evolves into a futuristic spaceship, and I guarantee you you will turn heads. Interior looks simple, minimalistic and more importantly does not have any gloss piano black used.
Fuel efficiency is amazing for me with my daily commute to work, averaging around 22km/litre. Car picks up fast when trying to overtake, and suspension is a league ahead of your typical Honda and Toyota. No issues at all with 20,000km+ clocked so far.
This car, despite commanding a lower price tag, is a step ahead its sister Kia Niro SX and miles ahead of the entry Japanese crossovers like Toyota Corolla Cross, Honda HRV and Nissan Kicks. Hyundai has really improved leaps and bounds compared to what it was a few years back. Extremely satisfied KONA Elite owner!
Very good car, once engine broken in throttle feels good, infotainment system amazing and safety features very good. But I'm coming from driving conti car for almost 15 years and i feel the difference massively. My old chevrolet just absorbed the small bumps and cracks in the roads much better than this. And i do feel the interior was much more spacious with more leather. But to contradict it's unfair to compare a 15yr old conti with a 2 week old toyota
