This morning, at about 8:30am, I requested a towing service because my car tyres and my car did not have spare tyres which I could change into. The AAS crew brought my car to Beng Heng.

Immediately on arrival, before the car was even unloaded, a worker in the shop rolled new tyre out and laid it beside the car, even though I indicated that the car only needed a repair to a puncture.

After the car was unloaded, the lady manager also tried to suggest that I should change the tyre but I insisted on repair, having been shown a nail embedded in the face of the tyre.

However, I make the mistake of not sticking close to the worker to observe all the actions of the worker. After the tyre was removed from the rim, I was shown a screw partially embedded obliquely in the inside of the tyre. This was such that it was driven into the side-wall of the tyre, with the head of the screw being on the inside of the tyre but not penetrating through the side-wall. See attached photo.

The worker insisted that this was what he saw, when I questioned how a screw could have been inside the type and better still driven into the side wall with the head on the inside of the type.

While I did not witness the act, I have no doubt that the screw was simply driven by hand into the inside side wall, so that I have no choice but to replace the tyre.

Was motivated to sign up for the sgcarmart.com membership just to warn fellow drivers with regards to service and price rendered by staff from this shop. I previously changed my car's battery 2 months back out of convenience since the shop is near where I stay, didn't bother to do a comparison back then.

In this short duration, my battery went dead overnight a couple of times. Since it was only 2 months, I brought the car back to the owner to check if the battery was faulty. I was delighted initially when the owner was willing to check for me on the issue and after waiting for 4 hours, I was informed that the battery was working fine and it was my car amplifier which was draining the power. Upon collection of the car, I was shocked to be charged $80 just for the check and I wasn't informed up front. I might have been at fault for not checking the price before sending the car for the check but onus should be on the boss to inform that they do not provide any after sales service. Also, paying for man hours is fine for me, but paying $80 to check for a battery which only costs $110 doesn't make any economical sense. If this was communicated initially, I wouldn't have allowed them to proceed with the check.

Was eventually shouted by the owner that the price is reasonable since manhours are charged at $25 per hour (must be really profitable to be working in his place). He claimed that since the car was in the workshop for 4 hours, $80 was already at a discount ( even though not all 4 hours was spent checking on my car). Owner finally agreed to charge $50 for a redundant check which doesn't solve my battery issue and asked me not to ever return to his prestigious shop.

Please take note that prices are quoted based on what they feel like, there isn't any pricing guide nor indication of how much is being charged for after sales service. Time to bring business to another tyre and battery company...

I was referred to this tyre shop and they really have all sorts of tyres. Got all 4 of my tyres replaced. I did a bit of price comparison and this is on par with the market price. Some models might be slightly cheaper. Wide range of tyres available. Probably return again when my tyres wear out. Hopefully it isn't too soon.
