Toyota has unveiled a new generation C-HR, and it looks just as exciting as the C-HR Prologue Concept that was unveiled in December 2022.
Up front, fans of the brand are sure to have noticed that the C-HR now draws on the design of the Prius for its angular head lights. These sit above a sizeable front grille on the C-HR.
Use of short overhangs as well as large wheels (of up to 20-inches) give the car a planted look, while at the back, you also must have noticed that the C-HR now can be had with a bi-tone design that extends the gloss black finish of the roof down into the rear bumper and the car's rear three-quarter section, a touch we also first saw on the C-HR Prologue Concept.
Look closer and you'll also notice that this C-HR now utilises flush door handles, said to be a first for any Toyota. These appear on both the front and rear doors of the vehicle.
In the cabin, the new crossover can be had with a 12.3-inch fully digital combimeter (instrument cluster) that can be personalised using switches on the steering wheel. This will be paired with either an 8.0-inch or a 12.3-inch central infotainment touchscreen that will support wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
The cabin of the Toyota C-HR will also include a 64-colour ambient lighting system that can additionally adjust the displayed shade according to the time of day, transitioning from bright morning tones to more relaxing ones in the evening. The car also will be available with a digital key system that will allow users to access and start the vehicle all from their phone.
Powering this new Toyota C-HR firstly are two hybrid powertrains. The first utilises a 1.8-litre engine to deliver a total system output of 138bhp. Those looking for more power will be able to get the crossover with a 2.0-litre hybrid drivetrain, which delivers a total of 198bhp.
New for this Toyota C-HR, however, is a plug-in hybrid option that utilises the same 2.0-litre engine as its hybrid variant, but gets assistance from a 163bhp motor to allow it to deliver a total system output of 223bhp. This plug-in hybrid variant is said to be able to offer up to 65km of electric-only range.
The Toyota C-HR is being launched with a special GR Sport Premiere Edition that will add GR styling details, including a G-mesh pattern for the grille, 20-inch alloy wheels, GR badging, 'Liquid Black' ornamentation on the centre console, and sports front seats with the GR logo embossed on the headrests. This special edition comes in a Precious Silver signature colour, although other colour options are available.
A High Premiere Edition is also available, which comes with a Sulphur exterior as its signature colour, although other colours are also available. The edition vehicle comes with perforated leather seats sporting contrast Sulphur stitching, a head-up display, and a panoramic roof.
