According to the Straits Times, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) intends to impose a financial penalty of $5.4 million on SMRT Corporation for the system-wide disruption on the North-South and East-West Lines on the 7th of July 2015.
In a press release, LTA claimed it has concluded that the incident could have been prevented if SMRT had rectified the tunnel water seepage as required under LTA's Code of Practice for maintenance.
Based on SMRT's records, the seepage had been detected in mid-June 2015. "However, these leaks were attended to only in end-July," said LTA.
