Volkswagen has unveiled the new Golf R Estate. More power, exceptional driving dynamics, and numerous innovations make the new Golf R Estate better than ever before.
Under the bonnet, the 2.0-litre TSI engine offers 315bhp and 420Nm of torque, enabling a sprint from zero to 100km/h in just 4.9 seconds. Power is transmitted via an R-specific seven-speed dual clutch gearbox. With the optional R Performance package, the Golf R Estate is capable of a top speed of 270km/h.
The Golf R Estate also features 4MOTION all-wheel drive with R Performance Torque Vectoring with selective wheel torque control, which is also found on the Volkswagen Golf R hatchback.
It works in sync with the Vehicle Dynamics Manager, electronic differential locks, and adaptive chassis control DCC to increase agility and traction characteristics. The enhanced technology on offer opens up two exciting new modes: Drift Mode and Nurburgring Mode.
Outside, R-typical insignia dominate the new Golf R Estate's powerful exterior. Completely new are the R-specific rear bumper with the diffuser painted in high gloss black, as well as a Volkswagen R-specification sports exhaust with chrome-plated twin tailpipes.
True to its station wagon heritage, the Golf R Estate is a family-friendly all-rounder despite its blistering performance. Although its R-specific sports running gear lower the vehicle by 20mm, the interior benefits from a 66mm longer wheelbase when compared to the Golf hatchback.
Passengers in the back enjoy a maximum legroom of 941mm, and the vehicle's storage compartment increases to a cavernous 1,642 litres if the second row seats are folded down.
In the interior, a new multifunction sports leather steering wheel and premium sports seats are fitted as standard. The infotainment controls have also been almost completely redesigned, with touch buttons, touch sliders and touch screens substituting the functions of analogue controls and visual displays.
As with all new Volkswagens, the MIB3 infotainment system provides seamless connectivity. It is networked with the various online services of the brand's own Volkswagen We ecosystem, and enables Cloud-based personalisation by means of the Volkswagen ID programme.
