Museums look after priceless treasures that contribute greatly to cultural and social life. In this regard, the Porsche Museum transports the values of the brand vividly into the present and future. To mark the 44th International Museum Day, held on 18 May this year, the Porsche Museum is issuing an invitation to visit them digitally.
Visitors can take a virtual guided tour of the special exhibition '25 Years of the Boxster' in German and English, delivering the history of Porsche's iconic mid-engine sports car to living rooms all over the world.
The online tour brings the storied history of the Porsche Boxster closer to all those interested. All Boxster models, including their conceptual ancestors and relatives, will be presented in two to three-minute videos. Viewers can navigate through the guided tour themselves and can select which car they would like to see next.
On display is a wealth of information about cars featuring mid-engine technology, which was used in 1948 in the Porsche 356 'No. 1' Roadster - the first car built under the Porsche name.
One of the highlights of the exhibition is the legendary 550 Spyder. The ancestor of the Boxster, with its light weight of around 550kg, was the first vehicle designed by Porsche for motorsport. The race car had its rev counter positioned in the middle - the start of a tradition that continues to the present day.
International Museum Day is organised annually by the International Council of Museums to demonstrate the wide-ranging work done by museums, and their thematic diversity. Museums throughout the world will showcase special initiatives, exhibits or a glimpse behind the scenes in the coming week.
The online guided tour can be accessed at the Porsche Museum's website from International Museum Day.
