Porsche has opened a special exhibition titled Beyond Performance. 50 Years of Porsche Turbo at the Porsche Museum to mark the 50th anniversary of the Porsche Turbo.
Running until 12 January 2025, the exhibition has been designed to inspire, inform, as well as surprise. Visitors will be able to catch a 13m-long display case that contains technical exhibits, drawings and photographs of components including turbochargers, a bypass valve, charge-air coolers and the K-Jetronic fuel injection system.
Fans will be able to catch a display featuring a host of components that have been utilised by Porsche's Turbo models as well as the 911 Turbo LEGO Big Brick anniversary car at the exhibition
Technology fans can look forward to cutaway models that visualise how the turbocharger works and will be able to watch films and digital explanations on large touchscreens that cover the Turbo's development and technology. Also on display at the exhibition is original specification sheet of the Porsche 911 Turbo from the 1973 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show, a technical drawing of the 930-generation Porsche Coupe, a spoiler from the 991-generation Porsche 911 with active aerodynamics, and a design model from the early 1970s.
All these will be displayed alongside the first 911 Turbo, which was a present to Louise Piech on her 70th birthday. The one-off gift to Ferry Porsche's sister had a narrow body and a 2.7-litre engine and the word 'Carrera' rather than 'turbo' along its side distinguished it from subsequent series production cars.
Also present at the exhibition is a 1976 Porsche 911 that belonged to Ferry Porsche and the 911 Turbo LEGO Big Brick anniversary car in Oak Green Metallic, both demonstrating how driving dynamics, comfort and progress can look while preserving the Porsche DNA.
And for the children, an age-appropriate digital learning adventure has also been developed, which will see young visitors accompanied by the Porsche 4Kids mascot Tina Turbo and assisted by a multimedia guide as they discover what Tina, children, and the Porsche Turbo all have in common.
