Porsche is all set to return to Le Mans - from 2014

It is an open secret that Porsche will return to Le Mans racing next year, through a new works racing team - after an absence of fifteen years. With the new team comes a new racer - the 911 GT3 RSR for the GTE class. Porsche will also develop a new class leading LMP1 hybrid racer for competition in the 2014 calendar.

Porsche is the most successful automaker in Le Mans history with the most number of titles under its name. With that history Porsche will return to compete for top honours - its last with a 911 GT1 in 1998.

Also since the RS Spyder, Porsche will create a Le Mans prototype which will make its racing debut sometime next year, before challenging the full FIA World Endurance Championship - including the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The works team will be based at Porsche's R&D facility in Weissach, where a 200 strong workforce will be led by Fritz Enzinger - formerly from BMW. Porsche's current Motorsport Chief Hartmut Kristen will focus purely on 911 based racing cars like the recently revealed GT3 Cup.
