NTA requests limousine cabs to be excluded from Taxi Availability standards

NTA would like limousine taxis - such as the Chrysler 300C operated by SMRT - to be excluded from the new Taxi Availability (TA) standards announced earlier, as NTA had explained to LTA how limousine cab drivers operate differently from regular cab drivers.
Ang Hin Kee, adviser for NTA, touched on this matter on top of several other topics put together by the Taxi Union during a feedback session with drivers at a coffeeshop in Jurong East on Monday morning.
Other issues raised with LTA include reducing the minimum daily mileage of 250km for taxis with a hirer or relief driver above 60-years of age and providing a discount on Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) or the notion of a monthly pass for driver that enter the Central Business District (CBD).
The new TA standards were implemented early this year and calls for a certain percentage of each taxi firm's fleet to be on the road during peak hours and ply at least 250km daily. The standards were imposed to allow commuters to hail a cab with ease.
