Yet, that could change as Nissan has announced plans to launch as many as 15 electrified vehicles by 2016. Sadly it seems the folks in the U.S.A will get to enjoy hybrid offerings from Nissan earlier than us if news around the intraweb is true.
According to Carla Bailo, Senior Vice President of Research and Development for Nissan North America, the hybrid system to under pin in the forthcoming 2014 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid will be carried over to models like the redesigned Murano and Rogue.
The Nissan Rogue - which is the restyled version of the funky Juke for the American market - was introduced in 2008, and the bigger Murano last received a facelift on that similar year. The all new Rogue has been spotted wearing a camouflage disguise, so it is likely the SUV will launch ahead of the Murano to retail early next year.
The hybrid Pathfinder uses a small single-motor hybrid system crammed between a supercharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine and an Xtronic continuously variable transmission (CVT). Combined power output of the engine and motor is 250bhp, almost on par to a pathfinder equipped with a 3.5-litre V6.
According to Nissan, the hybrid system will be priced attractively - unlike Lexus' hybrids which are several thousand dollars more than stock cars.
While European carmakers are adopting the trend of downsizing and turbo charging, Japanese automakers have practiced the art of hybridising their vehicles. Amongst the top three Japanese manufacturers, Nissan seems to be lacking in the hybrid game in comparison to Toyota or Honda.
