The top-selling Astra is now available in the U.K., with a new generation 1.6-litre CDTi - Vauxhall's (locally known as Opel here) cleanest ever mid-size diesel. Previously only available on the Zafira Tourer and the Meriva, the new 1.6-litre CDTi engine is now set to enhance the Astra's appeal as Vauxhall continues to significantly refresh its powertrain offer.
Not only is the new power unit clean and powerful, but the high-pressure common rail injection system and lean NOx trap exhaust-after treatment (LNT) improves efficiency, while a variable turbine turbocharger aids in making the new diesel a strong performer, too.
To be unveiled in the Astra at next month's Geneva Motor Show, the acclaimed new power unit is available in two power outputs - 108bhp and 134bhp - in both hatchback and Sports Tourer body styles.
The 108hbhp version achieves 32.4km/L combined with CO2 emission of just 97g/km, and 30.8km/L combined and 104g/km in 134bhp guise.
