Mercedes-AMG has expanded the AMG GT Coupe range with a new AMG GT43.
Just like the Mercedes-AMG SL43 unveiled in April 2022, this AMG GT43 comes equipped with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, although the one that does duty in this new AMG GT Coupe puts out a total of 416bhp and a peak torque of 500Nm, figures that place it on par with the output of the Mercedes-AMG A45.
To ensure that the new variant of the AMG GT is no slouch on the tarmac, this 2.0-litre unit comes assisted by a 48V system which can boost the car's drivetrain with an additional 14bhp. An electric exhaust gas turbocharger also does duty in this engine, boosting the unit's responsiveness to sudden demands for power, while allowing the engine to deliver more torque at low engine speeds.
Coupled to a nine-speed gearbox, this engine will see the new AMG GT43 speeding to 100km/h from a standstill in just 4.6 seconds. That's a faster century sprint time than the Mercedes-AMG SL43's 4.9 second timing, but still expectedly behind on the the 3.9 second sprint time of the Mercedes-AMG A45.
On the handling front, the AMG GT43 is equipped with a steel spring suspension alongside high-performance aluminium shock absorbers and lightweight coil springs as standard, however, customers can opt to have their car equipped with the AMG Ride Control adaptive damper system.
Customers can additionally opt for the AMG Dynamic Plus package with their AMG GT43, which adds a host of further handling upgrades including stiffer engine mounts, an electronically controlled locking differential at the rear axle, an additional aerodynamic element in the underbody of the car to maximise its downforce, and yellow brake callipers.
Customers who opt for this package will also be able to have their car completed with a fixed rear wing.
Choose not to have this wing and your AMG GT43 will come with a more elegant visual character than the other AMG GT variants, thanks to its redesigned front apron, narrower front and rear fenders, as well as its reduced track width. And at the rear, the AMG GT43 also comes with round tailpipes instead of the trapezoidal items that feature on AMG GT55 and AMG GT63. You'll also note that the vents aft of the front wheels are different on this AMG GT43 compared to those on the AMG GT63.
The AMG GT43 comes equipped with an 11.9-inch multimedia touchscreen in its cabin, and customers will additionally be able to specify their car with a variety of electrically and manually adjustable AMG sports seats in Nappa leather or opt for AMG performance seats complete with integrated headrests and offering increased lateral support.
