Mazda has revealed the EZ-6, a first of a series of new electrified vehicles from the firm that will be developed and manufactured by Changan Mazda, a joint venture between Mazda and Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., Ltd which is based in Nanjing, China.
Mazda does state that the new EZ-6 is a dedicated electrified model, although few drivetrain details are otherwise being offered save for the fact that the car will be available in China equipped with either a battery electric or a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. Mazda expects the former to offer a range of close to 600km, while the latter, interestingly, will reach up to 1,000km on a single tank of fuel. We are expecting this plug-in hybrid drivetrain to be a range-extender plug-in hybrid not unlike the technology already deployed by the firm in the firm's MX-30 R-EV.
The Mazda EZ-6 will get an electronically deploying rear spoiler, and looks set to feature a sizeable freestanding infotainment screen in its cabin
The car is also expected to deliver competent handling, with the battery electric model set to get a 50:50 weight distribution between its axles as well as a front strut and multi-link suspension at the rear, on top of an electronically deploying rear spoiler for added stability at speed.
Mazda states that the EZ-6 will also feature an intelligent parking technology that can be controlled by voice even when the driver is outside of the vehicle. The revealed images of the car further show it featuring a sizeable freestanding infotainment display, alongside a panoramic sunroof in its cabin.
The Mazda EZ-6 is scheduled for launch in China by late 2024.
