The new Mazda CX-7 will, however, get a new engine. This unit will be an ultra-efficient 2.2-litre turbo diesel producing 170 bhp, and, more importantly, complies with the Euro Stage 5 emissions standards. The new engine complements the existing 2.3-litre petrol turbo engine currently offered with the CX-7.
The CX-7 will also be the first Japanese car to be fitted with a new Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system, which cuts Nitrous Oxide emissions by up to 40 percent. The SCR system will be offered with the new diesel engine, and made exclusive to European markets only.
The compact SCR system doesn't intrude on the boot space of the CX-7 at all, which remains at 455 litres, and refills of the AdBlue liquid to the SCR system are required only during scheduled maintenance.
Mazda will debut the facelifted CX-7 at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show, along with new environmental technologies such as their fuel-saving i-stop system, and rotary hydrogen powertrain technology.
