Lotus releases Evora Type 124 Endurance Race Car

The Evora Type 124 Endurance Race Car is built to FIA-spec, and is designed to compete in long distance races, like the ADAC Nürburgring 24 Hours in Germany. Lotus will enter the Evora Type 124 in endurance races in Malaysia, Dubai and the UK throughout the 2010 season.

The mid-engined racer uses a Toyota V6 that produces just under 400bhp, and can be tuned according to the requirements of each race. The engine will be mated to a sequential six-speed racing gearbox with paddle shifters mounted to the steering wheel. A set of six-piston calliper brakes from AP Racing with a Bosch ABS system provides stopping power.

The Evora Type 124 Endurance Race Car shaves 200kg from the standard Evora road car, and now weighs 1200kg. To achieve this, Lotus installed an aluminium wishbone suspension, and also used aluminium for the chassis. The body panels were made from carbon fibre to further reduce weight, and lightweight, 18-inch rims are used, clad with Pirelli slick tyres that are wider at the rear.

"Every Lotus car is designed to be at home on the race track as well as the road, and the Evora is no different," said Lotus Vehicle Engineering Director Roger Becker.
