The London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC) has announced that it has reached a significant milestone with 5,000 TX taxis sold in London.
Since its launch in 2018, the TX has been a trailblazer for the worldwide taxi market, making up more than a third of licensed black taxis in London.
The 5,000 LEVC TX taxis have already travelled a combined 494 million total kilometres, accounting for more than two million passenger journeys in London The TX features a lightweight aluminium body and is powered by LEVC's eCity range extender powertrain, which allows it to travel in full electric mode for up to 103km. Total range from the vehicle meanwhile, stands at 512km.
LEVC states that the range extender powertrain allows the TX to reduce its NOx emissions by 99.5% compared to the old black diesel taxi. In the four years since launching, this means that the TX has prevented 109,000 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere.
The LEVC TX is also an accessible and inclusive vehicle for all. It features flexible space on-board for up to six passengers, alongside a fully integrated wheelchair ramp and a swivel seat, enabling the TX to accommodate a forward-facing wheelchair.
Since taking to the streets, the 5,000 taxis from the firm have travelled a combined distance of approximately 494 million kilometres, which equates to circumnavigating the globe an incredible 12,333 times. To date, more than two million passenger journeys have been taken in the electric TX taxi in London.
