Both the BYD Seal and BYD Dolphin have been awarded the Euro NCAP five-star safety rating.
BYD attributes the high rating of the Seal to its Cell-to-Body technology, which it claims, gives the car a sportscar-like torsional rigidity, aiding its 89% score in for Adult Occupant protection. BYD states that the Seal also offered good protection against whiplash injuries. In European markets, the Seal also comes with an advanced eCall system - which will automatically contact emergency responders should a severe collision be detected - as well as the car's ability to automatically apply the brakes after an impact to avoid secondary collisions, received praise during the tests.
The BYD Seal also received an 87% score in the Child Occupant protection tests, proving capable of minimising impact to all critical body areas for both child dummies in both the frontal and side barrier tests. Vulnerable road users like pedestrians or cyclists are also adequately protected due to the car's Autonomous Emergency Braking System.
The BYD Dolphin meanwhile scored 89% in the Adult Occupant protection category, with its passenger compartment remaining stable during the frontal offset test, offering good protection to occupants of different sizes and those sitting in different positions. The electric hatchback also scored 87% for Child Occupant protection. BYD states that the front seats and head restraints of the Dolphin also offered good protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision.
The car's safety assist systems, meanwhile, achieved a score of 79%, with Euro NCAP highlighting the performance of the camera-based Intelligent Speed Limit Assist and Lane Keeping Assist systems.
