BMW 1 Series EfficientDynamics Drive from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur
05 Dec 2011|7,659 views

The route saw a mixture of highway driving as well as single lane rural roads, designed to offer journalists the chance to experience the new 1 Series at its most efficient and dynamic best. On the highways, the 1 Series was driven in Eco Pro mode, which maximises fuel efficiency while still offering optimum cruising performance.
After winding through the towns of Skudai and Pedas/Linggi, the group stopped over for lunch at Port Dickson, at The Glass Restaurant, located within the Thistle Spa & Resort Hotel.

The roads took the convoy through Lukut, as well as the town of Sepang, past the Formula One circuit, before re-joining the highways through Putrajaya and arriving in Kuala Lumpur, in time for drinks and dinner.
After a good night’s rest, the group set off again the following morning back for Singapore. Using the same route as the day before, only in reverse, journalists once again got the chance to experience the 1 Series at its best. Groups that drove the 116i Urban Line swapped over to the 118i Sport Line for the trip back, and vice versa.
After a gruelling drive in two days, the all new 1 Series demonstrated that it is capable of highway cruising as well as being chucked around winding and twisting roads. Its compact size meant that it was nimble enough for the curves, while BMW’s EfficientDynamics programme has ensure that the lightweight 1 Series offers the best efficiency for cruising up the North-South Highway.
Journalists assembled at BMW’s showroom along Alexandra Road for a pre-drive briefing and breakfast, and were given the detailed lowdown to the all new 1 Series, available in 116i and 118i guises, as well as the planned route.
Finally, the group, in a pack of eight cars, with two or three to a car, set off from the showroom towards the Tuas Second Link. Each convoy, four of the 118i Sport Line and four of the 116i Urban Line, were headed by a lead car, also a new 1 Series, as well as being accompanied by a couple of camera and video crew cars.

Following that, the group continued on its way, with the rest of the journey to Kuala Lumpur consisting of winding, single lane roads, meant to challenge the 1 Series’ dynamic prowess. And the compact hatchback handled the task admirably, tackling the twisty roads with aplomb.
