Mio MiVue C330 - your trusty co-pilot

With close to 600,000 vehicles and less than 3,500km of roads, Singapore can get pretty congested during peak hours. A combination of a growing population and limited land space inevitably leads to frustrated drivers, road rage incidents, and consequently, road accidents.
Huh… then how?
Well, you could always opt for public transport but this is sgCarMart and we love our cars. Every Maverick needs a Goose, and we've found ours - the Mio MiVue C330. The C330 is probably the most affordable full HD car dashcam available on the market today.
Won't installing a dashcam void my car's warranty?
We understand that a fair amount of younger, less experienced drivers would be worried about voiding their cars' warranty if they were to tear apart the interior in order to install a dashcam and conceal its wires.
Typically, a higher end model would require a concealed wiring installation. However, the C-Series - Mio's entry level dashcam range, which includes the C310 and C330 - requires no such thing. Just plug the power into the cigarette lighter 12V port and you're good to go.

The C330 is a full HD car dashcam capable of recording up to 1080p at 30FPS. An all-glass lens ensures video quality is maintained at its peak over the camera's lifespan; plastic lenses tend to deform over time under constant exposure to heat and distort video quality.
At f2.0, the MiVue C330's 130-degree wide viewing angle captures all the action directly in front and in the peripherals of your car. Don't just take our word for it though, check out some footage shot from the C330 here.
Two features, both of which can be lifesavers when it comes to insurance claims, really stand out in the C330. A built-in GPS unit automatically records driving information, including speed, altitude, longitude, latitude and heading. Additionally, an integrated three-axis G-Sensor (present on both the C330 and C310) records G-forces, which shows the direction and force of accident impacts.
A 16GB MicroSD card in the C-Series is capable of storing up to two hours and 45 minutes of video recordings while a 32GB holds up to 4.5 hours' worth of videos. Speaking of which, every purchase of a C310 or C330 comes with a free 16GB MicroSD card. The C310 supports MicroSD cards up to 32GB while its higher specced sibling supports MicroSD cards up to 128GB.

A suction cup mount comes standard with any of the C-Series dashcams. However, suction cups can only be stuck onto smooth, even surfaces - like a car windscreen. They don't work so well on uneven surfaces like some dashboards. Not a problem, a 3M tape mount - which sticks to pretty much any surface - is available as an add-on option.
This mount has a slimmer profile and provides a less obstructed view of the road ahead. It is worth noting that the 3M tape mount is a permanent fixture, which means it can't be moved once it has been set up.
So just make sure everything is in place before installing it. If you're worried about the tape giving way, the C330 weighs just 65g and the C310 weighs in at 64g; well within the limits of the 3M tape's payload.
The guys over at Mio have made access to common functions more accessible in the C330 with quick-access buttons on the side of the unit. These include quick formatting of SD cards and switching of the dashcam's video resolution.
I have never heard of Mio…

Okay, I'm sold, how much are we looking at?
The Mio MiVue C330 costs $179, inclusive of free concealed wiring. Its more affordable brethren, the C310, comes in at just under $130 ($129 to be exact) with free concealed wiring.
Granted, the C310 won't come with a built-in GPS and is slightly bulkier, but it shoots 1080i videos at 24FPS (720p at 30FPS) and features an f2.4 110-degree wide angle all-glass lens; which is plenty enough considering you probably won't be using it to go skydiving.
In order to keep costs relatively low, the components in the C310 are not as high-tech as those present in the C330, which has a more compact body and a smaller 2.0-inch screen. But that doesn't mean the C310 is cheap, it just means it's a more affordable, basic and slightly larger unit (with a 2.4-inch screen) than the C330.
Any purchase of the C310 or C330 is accompanied by a two-year warranty. Buyers can head down to NaviCom Technology Pte Ltd for a one-to-one immediate exchange; do note that faulty units are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. You can also head over to http://www.navicomtechnology.com/warranty.html to register your dashcam's warranty.
Alternatively, you can head down to SITEX 2016 at the Singapore Expo Convention & Exhibition Centre Hall 6 from 24th to 27th November to check out NaviCom's range of in-car accessories at booth 6F33.
