Everything you need to know about the Polestar 3 right now

Following the Polestar 2 compact sedan, the performance electric division of Volvo has just unveiled the Polestar 3, a fully electric SUV that will take on accomplished cars like the Audi e-tron S Sportback, BMW iX, Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV as well as the Tesla Model Y.
Despite its simple denomination, the Polestar 3 is more than just a simple car. The carmaker is pitching the electric SUV as a sporty and progressive model. Will the car make the cut? Here is everything you need to know right now about the all new Polestar 3.
1. Shares the same platform as the Volvo EX90
The Polestar 3 is based on the same Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) 2 platform as the Volvo EX90 (the electric version of the Volvo XC90). This said platform will allow larger internal space, thanks to the possibility of lower rear floor.
The SPA2 platform, unlike the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform that underpins the recently launched Volvo C40 electric crossover, XC40 as well as the Polestar 2, will be compatible only to larger vehicles in the carmaker's lineup.
2. Shares similar 111kWh batteries too!
Other than sporting similar underpinnings, the Polestar 3 also utilises the same 400V lithium-ion battery type that has a massive capacity of 111kWh as the EX90.
This lithium-ion battery features a prismatic cell design housed in a protective aluminium case with boron steel reinforcement and liquid cooling.
And to help the Polestar 3 utilise ambient heat for climate and battery pre-conditioning, a heat pump is included as standard.
3. 610km of range. Yes, 610km
And it's precisely the huge battery that allows the new all-electric SUV to have approximately 610km of range on a full charge.
To put things into perspective, if an average Singaporean drives about 40km a day, the Polestar 3 will be able to last you for good 15 days before it needs to be charged up again.
Via a 50kW DC charging system, for instance, the Polestar 3 will take approximately 90 mins to reach 80% while it'll just take about 45 mins via a 100kW DC system.
4. Ample power to match the ample range
At launch, the Polestar 3 comes with a standard Long Range as well as a Performance Pack variant, both equipped with a dual motor setup. The Long Range packs an impressive 483bhp and 840Nm of torque, allowing the car to hit the 100km/h mark in just 5 seconds.
The Performance Pack, on the other hand, has the ability to juice out 510bhp and an astonishing 910Nm of torque from the word go. Century sprint for the variant is completed in just 4.7 seconds, which is quite a feat considering the new electric vehicle weighs about 2.6 tonnes.
5. The show to match that go
While the figures are mighty impressive, the Polestar 3 isn't all about the go without any show. The car, in its Performance Pack suit, sits on 22-inch wheels and sports a rear spoiler and a sloping roofline that gives it a very dynamic silhouette. You also get air vents at the front of the bonnet and behind the rear wheels as well as flush door handles to help with the aerodynamics of the Polestar 3.
Up front, the fascia appears pinched and modern, with the accompaniment of T-shaped daytime running lights, while the rear sports a full-width taillight that makes it instantly recognisable as a Polestar product.
6. Manufactured in two continents
According to Polestar, the 3 will be manufactured in two different continents - United States as well as China, where Volvo Cars facilities are located.
In the United States, initial deliveries of Polestar 3 is expected to start in the middle of 2024 while first deliveries are expected to happen earlier in China, which is some time in the fourth quarter of 2023.
As expected, Singapore will be getting cars that are manufactured in Chengdu, China.
7. It's coming to Singapore
Lastly, if Singaporeans are keen to get an all-electric SUV, you'll be happy to know that the all new fully-electric Polestar 3 will be arriving on our shores at the end of 2023.
During a panel discussion with Polestar, the next SUV that's a size smaller than the 3 will be the Polestar 4. It'll be an SUV coupe that's expected to sport similar dimensions of the Audi Q3 Sportback and the BMW X4. According to Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, the other two models that will complete the product lineup of Polestar will be the 5 as well as the 6.
The Polestar 5 will be a grand tourer that sits on its own bespoke platform while the Polestar 6 will be production version of the O2 Concept car.
