Review
Alfa's first electrified crossover brings to light just how far rivals have progressed. There's still plenty of work that needs to be done at Stellantis.
What I like
The exterior, for sure. The lights and the way the bonnet wraps ahead of them gives the Tonale a sort of frown that's just irresistible. And the intricate pattern of the rear lights are quite something to admire as well.
Adaptive suspension on a small crossover is rather interesting for sure.
What I do not like
Ride quality needs to be worked on. Shares platforms with a Jeep and feels like it - picks up ruts and transmits them into the cabin while being not particularly stiffly set up. Drivetrain makes quite the fuss and doesn't sound great when pushed either.

Review
Alfa's first electrified product is a little underwhelming, considering the firm has such an illustrious history of delivering much-loved petite offerings.
What I like
The exterior. The front is outright confident, delivering a pleasant scowl, while the rear finishes the car in a pretty and neat manner.
So, about that electrification... You'll really feel not much of it. The 1.5-litre unit has healthy official numbers, but pushing the Tonale returns unpleasant notes. And that's not the only issue - the ride is busy to the point of unbeatability. Non-premium rivals can do better.
What I do not like
The cabin sees an improvement in sheer acreage of the screens, but don't expect premium-rivalling levels of material use and diversity.
Review
The Tonale is Alfa's first proper stab at a new car that can offer mass market appeal since it fell into the hands of Stellants. Does it have the same cachet and appeal as the latest from the rest of the group?
What I like
The design should have no trouble getting people to swoon, as you'd expect from an Alfa Romeo. The car is neat and clean, with just the right amount of aggression that you'd want from a crossover.
Then there's the cabin, which is equally clean and thought out - the ignition button on the steering wheel is a nice, sporty and ergonomic touch.
Infotainment is clean, elegant, and responsive enough.
Power totals in at 158bhp, which is respectable, but this engine does not sound all that great.
What I do not like
Ride quality needs to be improved. Clear roads bring up an unacceptable amount of body movement, and the car does not feel capable of arresting body roll to be considered reasonably sporty, all while lacking in ride pliancy over larger obstacles.
