BY CONSIGNMENT

Selling your car by consignment means you get to retain legal ownership of the vehicle while you wait for a consignment agent to market and sell your car for you.

There are four reasons why you should consign your car:

1. The consignment agent will handle all the paperwork for you (road tax, vehicle transfer, insurance, loans)
2. Your car gets better exposure, and experienced agents to handle the sale
3. You get the keep your car and continue driving while waiting for a buyer
4. Your consignment agent will sell your car at the price you want

The beauty of selling by consignment is that you have the option to leave your car at the consignment agent's showroom, or you can continue driving your car while waiting for an offer from the buyer.

Do note that if you choose to continue driving, you'll have to bring your car down to the showroom whenever there's a scheduled viewing.

Selling your car by consignment means you typically pay a fee only upon successful sale. Meaning, you do not have to pay any fee if your car is not sold.

Consignment agents will discuss the fee with you before signing the consignment agreement. You can negotiate the fee with your consignment agent – it typically ranges from a flat fee or a small percentage of the sale.
