Nicely built for a Hyundai  Posted on 05 Mar 2024

Very well built for a Hyundai. Performance is very decent , not exciting but very decent. Nice interior. Unfortunately, the car looks extremely dated exterior styling wise. I just cannot live with such a look. Its slightly worse to look at in real life. For the price, this is not a car for many serious car buyers.

It may look like a Porsche, or maybe a streamliner, but whatever the case may be, if you're looking for an electric car that fun to drive, you won't be too far off with this Ioniq 6.

What I like
Say what you want of the fussy ornamentation, there's no denying that this thing is sleek. It's really hard to think of anything in recent years that offers four-door practicality while sporting such a shapely silhouette.

Then there's the drive. There's power underneath this thing, even if you have to depress the accelerator pedal to feel it - but hey, that's easy modulation of the power available when you're cruising along. The brakes feel natural, the steering it just rightly paced, and the ride isn't harsh either.

What I do not like
Those window buttons are made from straight out cheap plastic.

If you've seen this Ioniq 6 on the road, you'll know what I mean when I say that it can't really be mistaken for anything else. It's a good thing then, that it is such an astonishing drive.

What I like
Head-tuner looks. Ok, so over time this thing probably won't age too well. I mean, there's a lot going on and a lot to take in. But all this is put together in a form that is just hard not to take a second look at.

Step in and you'll find the interior quite a bit cleaner. The drive mode selector takes a bit of getting used to, as is the fact that the window buttons are on the the centre console, but there's plenty of customisation options from the infotainment screen.

Overall the car is reasonably spacious for those at the front, and there's mad levels of leg room for those at the rear.

Ride quality is also great. The car feels planted and responsive. There's some weight to the accelerator, but give it a stomp and the car pushes along in a hurry. The brakes don't feel as dead here either.

What I do not like
Yeah, the styling really needs to be toned down just a bit.

It looks fast, and is fast. Zero to 100km/h in 5.1 seconds is no slouch, even for an electric car. And once you come to a stop, those around you will also be able to appreciate the great styling of this car. It's a showstopper for sure - catch people straining to get a better look.

What I like
Wild evocative styling aside, the Ioniq 6 is also pleasant to drive. It feels a touch more manoeuvrable than the Ioniq 5. Overall, its a car that feels very natural to drive.

Take on some speed and the car can feel just a touch underdamped. Don't worry about that sloping roof, space at the rear as mad for a car of this size.

What I do not like
Look out for tight corners: This thing has a long wheelbase. The controls in the cabin take some getting used to: The infotainment is a mess, and some of the controls, such as the gear selector and window switches are conventional. And so is the car key.

Should the styling be turned down a little for the facelift?
