22 Aug 2023  |  Mercedes-Benz Reviews
The Mercedes-Benz EQA may have a more visually appealing interior, but the Volvo counters with a sorted ride and a smaller price tag.

Mercedes' small electric crossover stands out from the GLA with a sleek closed off grille at the front and some muscular taillights at the rear, but its ride still needs a bit of finessing if it is to draw customers to embrace its all-electric drivetrain.

What I like
Beyond the tweaked looks which do the crossover body much favours, the sleek cabin, and the quiet drive are all great touch points of the EQA. Cabin material use is also commendable, especially on higher-trim vehicles, although build quality not so much. And the standard seats look out of place in such an expansive car.

What I do not like
Ride quality still needs improvement. The car takes on bumps on the road and transmits time into the cabin in a manner that feels heavy. Brake pedal modulation also needs to be improved.

It's compact, fast and eager enough and charmingly packaged within a handsome exterior. The Mercedes-Benz EQA should win hearts. But there's some issues.

What I like
The smart looking exterior - que that closed off front grille and the muscular shaping of the rear taillights.

The car feels about punchy enough, although you do bear in mind that there's always a dear price to pay for Mercedes' all-electric lineup here in Singapore.

The front screens and dashboard are pleasing to look at. Overall build quality is barely passable.

What I do not like
The available space at the rear feels lacking next to the BMX X1. And the seats lack thigh support.

The ride is not as accomplished as you'd expect of a Mercedes, exhibiting a touch more business than you'd really ought to accept.

The junior of the Mercedes-Benz EQ range certainly is not pulling any punches. A high-gloss grille up front, fully-width LED strip, and those muscular taillights at the rear, are all very in-trend and eye-catching.

But does the car ride drive as well?

What I like
For those looking for an inner-city commuter, there's little to fault. The ride is respectable (damping and body control could be improved), and the cabin's is quiet enough.

Mercedes has clearly put some thought (or perhaps a little too much) into the material use and design of the cabin. There's eye-catching ambient lighting, and a wild mix of surfaces employed here, reflecting the lovely colours in the infotainment system.

What I do not like
Steering weight and feel definitely need to be improved.
