Non-existent customer service: AVOID  Posted on 18-Feb-2024

This is my belated review from Oct 2022. Brought in my Macan for an engine and PDK gearbox tuning for S$2,400 (S$2,568 with GST then).

Prior to bringing in the car, I had a few email queries. Eugene (whom I understand is a part-owner of the company) was super responsive and would reply me within the day. At no point did Eugene mention that he would be the tuner.

When I dropped off my car at the workshop on Tue 4 Oct, the counter staff mentioned the tuner wasn't available for a chat. I requested the counter staff for the tuner to give me a call back during the day, but there was no call. The next day on Wed 5 Oct, I was informed that the car was ready for collection, but I was only able to collect the car on Fri 7 Oct when I returned from a short business trip. At the point of collection, I again requested to speak to the tuner, only then did the counter staff give me Eugene's email address, i.E. He was actually the tuner. I found this a bit strange.

Over the weekend, I drove the car extensively and on Mon 10 Oct, I emailed Eugene with some feedback and asked if the gear shift pattern could be further changed. No response, which is the complete opposite to the super prompt replies when I still hadn't handed over my money yet. I then called in a few times to request a discussion with Eugene but (as expected) there was no call back.

Over the past couple of years, I have slowly increased my knowledge about engine tuning and mods. My guess now is that Eugene had simply pre-loaded one of the existing engine tuning software out there. The independent workshop which I've now been going to, was able to manually change the gear shift points for me.

I have since avoided going back to AVANTAGE VAG due to this utter lack of customer service. The moment you have paid, this workshop will just ignore you and leave you in the dark. There are many other workshops out there which are not only technically proficient but also provide excellent customer service.

This is not a fake review "Hit job" By a jealous competitor, I still have the invoice and entire email chain as proof.

Regarding the car body re-painting quality I have no complaints but the process protection work is very terrible. The first time deliver my car was for repainting for 7 days of work on 17 Nov 2022, later I found the car's left side mirror frame have a pry marking, and the mirror plates up and down control were damaged. That was after the next day when I adjusted the mirror and then found it damaged I also complain about why the window visors why not removed for painting, then they arrange for 13 Feb 2023 to continue the job. Afternoon deliver the car to them and after two hours received a call saying the oven machine failed and work can't continue and must arrange another day to continue the re-painting job. But when I get the car the window visors were removed and the window frame has done polished but no re-paint and the window side plates have heavy scratch marks. I make a complaint on next day and requested for replacement but he argued not to disassemble the window visors for painting work because the oven was down. He will investigate but for days not get an answer.

Poor Technical Abilities  Posted on 22-Apr-2023
I sent my car for VAG East for repair and was quoted $4000 plus. Went to another workshop and he resolved my issue with a fraction of the cost. Will not return to the shop again.

No judgement just stating facts. Aug 26th '21 car broke down on PIE with full Christmas lighting warning signs with faults in Tire Pressure Monitoring Sys, Stabilization Control, Brake Servo, Hill Hold Assist, ProActive Occupant Protection, Electronic Parking Brake, Adaptive Front Lighting etc. Sep 8th '21 got billed $2,700.68 majority cost being Engine ECU $2,320.00. Sep 15th '21 6 days later, Car broke down again almost the same spot at PIE with to me the same warning signs. Sep 20th '21 got billed for $2,953.20 for Mechatronic Replacement. Nov 11th '21 52 days later, fortunately this time was after a long drive to NTU could not start up again once parked with the same warning signs. Nov 12th '21 billed $292.75 after a wonderful 5% Discount. This time was for Engine wire replacement for ECU, Mechatronic, Engine Bay and interior harness. Running total $5,946.63 so lets see if I will get fourth time lucky. Think it is fair I knock off 2 stars from my 5 since I came in twice more than I should.

Unethical and recommend repairs that are unneccessary  Posted on 04-Jun-2021

I sent my Audi A6 2014 to VAG East that I recently bought for normal service as the car indicated oil needs to be top up. Car is in good condition except system prompts oil top up required. Called them before hand and agreed on a car servicing price.

Upon sending in car, the car representative, Matthew, called during the service and told me there is oil leak and oil filter housing needs to be replaced. There is also coolant leak that needs to be replaced. Engine mounting to be replaced and among other things, the bill will be $2300 plus excluding the normal servicing. They also recommend Catalyst Converter replacement that would cost $3600 plus!

I asked what would be the critical stuff to change and I did not expect it would take full day as I have prior appointment made. He suggest to do these another day. Then he called later that I need to change Turbo Cut off valve as it is spoiled or the car cannot move. I agreed as I need the car for my appointment. Bill came up to be $200 more. And I only came in for an oil change.

I sent my car to another workshop a week later to check on the stuff that he claims are critical. The workshop told me that my car is fine and there's nothing needs to be change at all for now, only the engine mounting if I find the vibration annoying. There's no signs of coolant leak, oil leak is very minimal and does not warrant a change of the oil filter housing now. He also explained that its common of Audi cars to top up oil when warning lights come up.

I am very disappointed with VAG as they recommend things to repair that are unnecessary and not critical; I also suspect that they spoil the turbo cut off valve when my car is in good condition when i send in and I only want an oil change.

I could have been carrot chopped to change the stuff VAG mention and that is unnecessary at this stage.

Beware of this and also ask for a second opinion when they recommend items to fix. Bad experience and one time is enough!

A very big 10/10 review to VAG Toh Guan's Ryan and his team. Ryan and his team is professional, great attitude and always has car owner's interest in mind. My car was sabotaged by unscrupulous business owner and almost close to destroying my beloved dream car. Luckily Ryan express great professionalism and provide excellent support even after office hours in the nick of time. No words could express my gratitude to Ryan and his team accurately. Definately will be going to VAG for all car related upgrades/maintenance/repair as they are the best in the market. They know exactly how to treat your car most accurately and professionally.

Just wanted to drop a note to highly recommend this workshop. The team at Avantage VAG is a team that is not just professional but passionate about the cars they work on. This was experienced personally by me when I had the pleasure of interacting with 3 of their staff members; Faiz, Jay and Ryan.

All 3 staff took the time to get to know me and the needs and considerations of my car. Whether it was Faiz advising on OEM parts for my vehicle, Ryan on servicing and repair or Jay advising on performance and aesthetic upgrades for my car, all of them were warm, friendly, highly competent and worked together as a team to provide their best possible care and attention to both me and my car.

The 3 gentlemen were patient and knowledgeable and addressed all my concerns and queries I had. This left me with the strong assurance that Avantage VAG was the best possible workshop to look after and improve my car.

Equally important, I am extremely pleased with the quality and timely work rendered to my car. The work of their technicians is meticulous and of the highest standards.

Competant workshops in Singapore abound. However, Avantage VAG is one of those rare workshops that not only provides excellent professional service but goes the extra mile to build long term relationships with their customers to truly understand their needs for their car/s and thus, render a superior service experience built on a relationship of trust. This sets them apart from the rest.

Being a car owner for more than 20 years, I have my fair share of experiences with agent and 3rd party workshops. My recent visit to VAG at Toh Guan was a very pleasant one I must say. I was there for my 120K major servicing which was a 2 days job. Drop off my car in the morning with the Service Advisor and inform him of some problem that I need his mechanic to check. By lunch time, I receive a call from the SA explaining to me their findings and told them to proceed with the faulty part replacement.

When I came to collect my car the next evening, I was recommended to join as their club membership simply by purchasing 2 extra normal servicing for my car to get a 10% Discount on my overall bill. What I get in the end was very decent savings that equates to a free normal servicing package plus 2 years warranty on all parts replaced inclusive of labour! To me, this is a no brainer to join since I am coming back for my regular servicing anyway.

From my experience, not many 3rd party workshops offers warranty for parts and labour not to mention for a 2 years period. This is a strong testament of their workmanship. I am a happy customer and will recommend my friends to this workshop.

Drive in with some warning lights on, quote $60.00 for diagnostic fee. Agree to proceed on with the recommended repair jobs, $60.00 was waived.

My aircon broke down just as I was about to reach my office yesterday... Coming back from meeting and airon suddenly not cold at all! Googled and found VAG North and sin ming is the nearest, I called up and they said yes can come in. I was dreading that my aircon compressor kaput as my Audi is 8 years old.

The service advisor explained that for diagnose fee is $60 but this will be waived if the repair is done at VAG. Turns out that it was only a pressure switch that was spoilt, cost me less than $100!. Even though i was prepared to pay for a new compressor and even ask if it was a compressor problem, the technicians are very honest and assured me it's a small and common problem. I know many shops they will just tell me it's a compressor problem since I won't know any better!!

Anyway, happens there was another Audi just replace the same item that morning so i need to wait 1-2 hours for the part to arrive, I mentioned that I am in a hurry and SA call the other VAG outlets and luckily VAG kaki bukit has stock. Drove down there and it was fixed in 10 minutes!

Kudos to VAG for honesty, quick service and their workshop is clean and their staff are professional. I think it is fair to charge a diagnostic fee since they absorb it if I proceed with repair. How can I go hospital diagnose my sickness then tell them I go outside buy medicine myself, the consultation shoudl be FOC??!

Well done VAG!

This shop charges well too expensive

- tablet test, $60

- Always ask to replace all things showing error code.
$50 issue becomes $2000.

- labor very expensive.

- parts price is double outside

VW and Auti owners, never visit this shop; Or else you will regret a lot.

I visited VAG to check coolant leaking problem for my VW Golf. The mechanic in charge was quick to diagnose the broken inlet pipe and suggested replacement of coolant tank without the cap (saving $30). An afternoon was all it took for the part to be delivered and installed.
