Hyundai wasn't kidding about the excellent FC. Pity the plasticky interior. | Posted on 15 Apr 2022 |

Review
Bought the car since 2021 July.
Good
- excellent FC (20 to 21 km/l) on Esso 98
- no issues with the reliability of the system
- lots of safety kit compared to other cars of the same price point
- the hybrid torque makes overtaking a breeze in sports mode.
Cons
- plasticky interior. Plus point means it is made to last, I'd suppose.
- it's a compact SUV, back seats are cramped. Kia Niro, it's Korean cousin is more roomier.
- how it looks can be divided.

Value for money before the COE spike | Posted on 13 Nov 2021 |

Great car, handles great. Safety features are pretty solid as well. Real world fuel economy after a few months averaged to 23km/L and that's really great. The car has been great so far and hope everything will hold up well in coming years. Managed to get it right before the COE spike and was a pretty value decision.

Sad that this model is no longer offered. I have been driving mine since taking delivery in March 2022 and this is the only car I ever had that I can trust to be fuel efficient, no matter how heavy footed I pushed it. Been averaging 22.5km/L and re-fuelling around every 9 to 10 days with my daily commute Sengkang - Tuas. Used to drive 216d with >1,100km average per tank, but that is diesel powered, not the environment friendly type and a much bigger tank. This Kona had eased my "Range anxiety" When I first learnt of it's meagre 38L fuel tank. Overall I would say its one of the most value-for-money car I ever bought, since I got it before the COE went crazy and with the 7-years/140,000km FREE servicing package thrown in. The 3 months plus delivery for my Kona was definitely worth the wait, though a painful one. No pain - no gain.
What I like
1. Fuel efficiency
2. Quite quiet, for a non-continental car
3. Handling much much better than previous model
4. Safety and "lazy" features that works
5. "forced" Laid back driving due to default ECO mode
6. Plenty of USB ports for your devices
7. Internal "Jump-start" when your 12V battery is flat
What I do not like
1. Plasticky interior.
2. Only 2 drive mode - ECO & SPORTS, no others
3. EV-engine mode transition could be noticeable at SLOW carpark speed
4. No rear passenger aircon vents
5. Sometimes wonky Apple/Android Auto USB interface
6. Door button press to unlock doors (maybe a safety/security feature)
7. No spare tyre (hate those puncture fix kit that doesn't work most time)
