Only seven units in the U.S. are believed to be affected by the recall, which involves S40 sedans built on March 18 2011. Volvo will inform the affected owners to bring their cars in to their dealers for inspections and checks.
The problem lies witha potential crack found on the top of the passenger side support member located in the enginebay. The cracks are likely to have developed during the forming process of the structural component and if present may reduce the component's strength during a crash.
Volvo dealers will inspect the affected cars for cracks, with no further action to be taken if none are found. If it is revealed that the vehicle has a crack in the side support member however, Volvo will offer a replacement vehicle to the owner.
