The all-new MINI Cooper and Countryman have just been launched in Singapore during a media event at One Holland Village. The location is also home to the MINI Pitstop pop-up store by Eurokars Habitat.
The fresh new generation of MINI's two most important models, the Cooper and Countryman, are available in both petrol engines and all-electric drivetrains - a first for the MINI Countryman.
MINI's latest design language is in line with the urban character and innovative spirit that the brand is associated with
While the iconic MINI models have seen comprehensive transformations with the brand's new 'Charismatic Simplicity' design language in place, they are still designed in line with the urban character and innovative spirit of MINI.
In true MINI fashion, an evolutionary approach has been taken with this new generation of cars to result in refreshing designs that are immediately recognisable and associated with the brand.
The new Cooper sports plenty of fresh new design elements, while retaining the brand's iconic identity
On first glance, you'll already recognise the classic large round head lights, along with the familiar proportions of the Cooper: Short overhangs, short bonnet, and the visual three-part division across the car body, the surrounding window area and the contrasting roof. Take a closer look, however, and you'll notice the fresh new design elements such as the new octagonal grille, a defined shoulder section and the new trapezoidal taillights.
Flushed door handles and the absence of fender flares are the best ways to identify the all-electric Cooper models
The all-electric Cooper models can be differentiated by their flush door handles, and the absence of fender flares, underlining the clear and modern impression of these models.
Despite its rugged design and its larger size, the new MINI Countryman has a lower drag coefficient value than its predecessor
Meanwhile, the new MINI Countryman has grown larger - 60mm taller and 130mm longer - to offer even more space and comfort. The new design also sports improved aerodynamics to aid in fuel consumption - its drag coefficient value has dipped to 0.26 from the outgoing model's 0.31. Additionally, wider wheel arches and a fresh and modern design enhances the crossover aesthetic appeal of this rugged adventurer.
The new MINI models has been given a minimalist treatment on the inside, along with a centralised round instrument cluster that harks back to the classic Mini Cooper
The interior of the new MINI models has also been given a minimalist treatment reminiscent of the classic Mini Cooper. Snatching the limelight is the centralised round instrument cluster: An OLED display of high resolution, and in a true round shape.
The round infotainment system and central display cluster is powered by MINI Operation System 9, offering an intuitive user experience
Powered by the MINI Operating System 9, operation is intuitive and simple. Numerous functions can also be controlled with MINI's first ever full-fledged voice assistant that is activated with "Hey MINI", or by using the push-to-talk button on the steering wheel.
The new MINI Cooper is available in three variants: The petrol-powered Cooper S, along with the electric Cooper E and SE, which both see a single electric motor sending power to the front wheels.
Notably, the two fully electric variants of the Cooper can now go further on a single charge than the previous Cooper Electric. Powered by a 40.7kWh battery, the Cooper E has a WLTP-rated range of 305km, while the Cooper SE's 54.2kWh battery gives it an even more usable maximum range of 402km.
Meanwhile, the new MINI Countryman is also available in three variants, including the petrol-powered John Cooper Works Countryman ALL4, and the electric Countryman E ALL4 and Countryman SE ALL4.
Both the Countryman E ALL 4 and Countryman SE ALL4 are powered by the same 66.5kWh battery, with WLTP-rated maximum ranges of 462km and 432km respectively.
The MINI Cooper S is powered by a 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo engine that puts out 195bhp and 300Nm of torque. The Cooper E's single electric motor, on the other hand, produces 148bhp and 290Nm of torque, while the Cooper SE's produces 215bhp and 330Nm of torque. The Cooper S is the quickest of the bunch, completing the century sprint in 6.6 seconds, as opposed to the Cooper SE's 6.7 seconds and the Cooper E's 8.4 seconds.
The MINI John Cooper Works Countryman ALL4 gets a powerful 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo engine that puts out 288bhp and 400Nm of torque, allowing it to complete the century sprint in just 5.4 seconds.
The Countryman E's electric motor, on the other hand, produce 201bhp and 250Nm of torque, while the dual motors in the Countryman SE ALL4 make 308bhp and 494Nm of torque, giving the two variants century sprint figures of 8.6 seconds and 5.6 seconds respectively.
