Skoda Octavia gets new AWD variant
21 Mar 2025|258 views
The Skoda Octavia is now available with AWD for its fastback and estate variants. Christened the 4x4, it is offered exclusively with a 2.0 TSI petrol engine delivering 201bhp - an increase of 13bhp over its predecessor - and 320Nm of torque, and is paired with a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission.
The Octavia 4x4 fastback is able to achieve a century sprint timing of 6.6 seconds, while its estate version does this in 6.7 seconds. Both have a top speed of 228km/h. In addition to its power, the highly efficient engine adjusts valve timing in low-load conditions, lowering the compression ratio and reducing fuel consumption.
Its AWD system is managed by an electrohydraulically controlled inter-axle multi-plate clutch and is supported by sensors that continuously monitor driving conditions. The control unit calculates and applies the optimal power distribution, allowing up to 100% of torque to be redirected to the rear axle in ideal conditions. If all wheels have an equal traction, the inter-axle clutch distributes torque up to a maximum of 50-50 between the front and rear axles.
An advanced multi-link rear axle ensures precise wheel control, improving handling, safety, and ride comfort. The AWD system also increases towing capacity to up to 1,900kg with a braked trailer.
As for design selections, the Octavia 4x4 is available with Essence, Selection Loft, Lodge, Lounge, Suite, and Sportline Design Selections.
