The Insignia OPC Unlimited Edition is a result of customer requests, who are increasingly asking carmakers to remove the ubiquitous 250km/h electronic speed limiter found on many German cars. "We are responding to frequently expressed customer wishes," says Alain Visser, Vice President Sales, Marketing and Aftersales at Adam Opel AG. "Insignia OPC buyers are generally experienced and responsible drivers who want to enjoy the full technical possibilities of their car."
Without the speed limiter, the Opel Insignia OPC Unlimited now has a top speed of 270km/h. The special edition is comes with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission, and is available for all three body styles in the Insignia range, the four-door sedan, five-door hatchback, and the Sport Tourer estate.
The only other cosmetic changes are in the interior, with the addition of a blue Brembo logo, as well as a redesigned speedometer and tachometer. Opel has said however that it is preparing a version with matt black wrapping.
Under the bonnet, the Opel Insignia OPC Unlimited is powered by a 2.8-litre twin-scroll turbocharged V6 engine that produces 325bhp and 400Nm of torque, which are sent to all four wheels. Depending on which variant of body style and what transmission is specified, the Insignia OPC Unlimited is able to sprint from 0-100km/h in about 6.0 to 6.6 seconds.
