New Hyundai robot assists soldiers on rehabilitation journey

After revealing this Vest EXoskeleton wearable robot in September 2019 and making use of Boston Dynamic's Spot to patrol its sites, Hyundai has now revealed a new X-ble Medical Exoskeleton (abbreviated to just 'X-ble MEX').

Created in collaboration with the Korean Armed Forces Medical Command, the video documents the use of the X-ble MEX robot at the Armed Forces Capital Hospital and delivers thousands of heart-warming messages of support from the public to the injured soldiers.
The new robot is said to have bee utilised by South Korea's Armed Forces Capital Hospital since August 2023 and has been developed for the purpose of lower muscle reconstruction, aiding walking rehabilitation and supporting complex training movements beyond simple walking assistance.
It does this thanks to the use of a real-time actuator control system that helps patients move independently by assisting them with the strength needed to maintain balance for walking. It can additionally support actions such as sitting, standing, walking, rotating and climbing stairs, greatly enhancing treatment efficiency and motivating patients on their rehabilitation journey. The robot can also aid balance and reduce injury risk by lowering the chance of a patient falling backwards.
Hyundai Motor Group states that it intends to continue using advanced mobility technology in various support activities to enable the mobility disadvantaged to move freely in the future.
