Keen on reminding local buyers that it was actually one of the first movers in the electric crossover space, MG has released its latest compact contender into the fray: The all-new MGS5 EV. The car was launched in Singapore on Wednesday evening (9 April 2025) at the Suntec City Atrium Space, and will remain at the area for shoppers to get up close with until this Sunday (13 April 2025).
At just under 4.5 metres long, around 1.64 metres tall, and under 1.85 metres wide, the MGS5 EV is seeking to take the fight to other compact electric crossovers with all of the brand's latest technology. Sgcarmart understands that the car will eventually succeed the ZS EV, which first arrived onto our shores in 2020, before receiving a facelift in 2023.
The differences between the two cars are far more than skin-deep, though, since the MGS5 EV boasts numerous advancements in hardware and software over its spiritual forebear.
Whereas the ZS EV was built on a platform originally designed for combustion-powered cars, then tweaked to accommodate an electric drivetrain, the MGS5 EV rides on the Modular Scalable Platform (MSP) - specifically for EVs. If the term sounds familiar, that's because its other electric stablemates, such as the MG 4 EV and the MG Cyberster, also ride on the same architecture.
The MGS5 EV gets a sleek front end with a 'wind hunter' active lower grille, as well as tail lights inspired by racing flags
Before diving into the technicalities, however, it's worth pointing out that the MGS5 EV has gotten what is described to be MG's "new emotional design ethos". Exterior highlights include its slim, slanted daytime running lights; a 'wind hunter' active lower grille that either opens to cool the vehicle's innards or closes to reduce drag; and a literally racy touch at the rear - tail light signatures inspired by racing flags. Six different paintcoats are available to local buyers, including the Flare Red and Silver you'll find at the Atrium Space.
Coming back to the car's latest-generation architecture now, the first notable manner in which the MGS5 EV reaps benefits from the MSP is in terms of space. A generous wheelbase of 2,730mm should give rear passengers all the room they need to stretch out, with a flat floor helping to maximise comfort even further. A decently-sized 453-litre boot awaits just behind, whose electronic tailgate can be activated with a kick beneath the bumper.
A 2,730mm wheelbase and a completely flat floor should give rear passengers all the room they need to stretch out at the rear. The size of the MGS5 EV's boot also stands at a very handy 453 litres
Unlike the front-wheel driven ZS EV, the MGS5 EV's utilisation of the MSP also sees its single electric motor sending power solely to the rear wheels.
Thankfully, it should retain its predecessor's mass market appeal, given that said motor's peak output of 99kW and 250Nm of instant torque allows it to duck under the power ceiling for a Category A COE, while still achieving a respectable century sprint timing of under 10 seconds. MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link rear suspension also bode well for the car's handling and comfort.
Performance aside, the use of the MSP means the MGS5 EV can support a faster peak charging speed of 150kW with a DC outlet, with which the state-of-charge of its 62kWh battery can go from 10 to 80% in just 26 minutes. When fully juiced up, the car manages a healthy mixed WLTP-rated range of 425km, and an impressive city-only range of 560km.
Boasting a fresh interior, the MGS5 EV also promises to present those who climb aboard with a clean and modern space. Beyond just a standard black interior, buyers can opt for a beige-and-grey colourway too, but regardless of which they choose, they'll find a special easter egg if they peer closer at the upholstery: The 'MG' letters are perforated seamlessly into the seat backs.

Built with symmetry in mind, the front of the cabin sees similar touches mirrored along the central vertical axis, with the effect most pronounced on the row of buttons beneath the 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen.
The latter now comes with both wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto support, and even integrates popular applications such as Spotify and YouTube natively. Paired to it is a 10.25-inch HD driver's display that sports an interactive user interface; this appears not too dissimilar to the one already found on the all-new MG HS, which was launched in January this year.
Other highlights in equipment include the MGS5 EV's wireless phone charging tray, dual-pane panoramic sunroof, and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, which effectively allows the car to serve as a roving power bank.
For extra ease of driving, the electric crossover is also fully loaded with MG's latest driving assistance systems: A whopping 16 of them to be precise, including the likes of Lane Keep Assistance, Door Open Warning, Blind Spot Monitoring and Adaptive Cruise Control.
Shoppers visiting Suntec City can get up close not just with the new MGS5 EV until Sunday, but also other electric members of the family including the MG Cyberster (pictured in yellow) and the MG4 EV
Speaking at the launch, Mr Raymond Ng, Managing Director of Eurokars EV, called the MGS5 EV a "strategic leap, masterfully blending aesthetic appeal, practical utility, and cutting-edge technology, perfectly aligned with our market's demands".
The MGS5 EV is now on sale in Singapore with a special launch price of $165,888 (including COE), and will come with a 10-year battery warranty, five-year vehicle warranty, and 10 years of free servicing. For the special roadshow period until this Sunday, Eurokars EV is also extending special goodies including a $5,000 car discount, $500 worth of aftersales vouchers and $500 worth of shopping vouchers to buyers.
Alongside the MGS5 EV, visitors can also look forward to getting up close with the MG 4 EV and MG Cyberster at the Suntec City Atrium Space.
