Mercedes Benz has revealed details of its BMW M5-rivalling performance sedan, the E63 AMG. The new flagship is set to be lavished with a whole host of features unique to it.
Chief among which is the naturally aspirated 6.3 litre V8 engine which produces 525bhp and 630Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to the AMG Speedshift MCT 7-speed automatic taken from the SL63 AMG. This transmission does away with the traditional torque converter in favour of a wet start-up clutch, and has three modes; Controlled Efficiency, Sport and Manual. The latter allows for manual override of the transmission where the driver can change gears using the shift paddles located behind the steering wheel or the gear lever. 0-100km/h is claimed to be dispatched in a mere 4.5 seconds, and top speed is an electronically limited 250km/h.
Other features include lightweight forged 19-inch AMG alloy wheels with size 255/35 R 19 tyres at the front and 285/30 R 19 at the rear. An AMG rear spoiler, rear window roller blind and Nappa leather on the seats, dashboard, beltline, armrest, centre console and inside door panels are also included, while ceramic brakes are among the options.
AMG has also tuned the steering and suspension for improved handling and ride. The new speed-sensitive rack-and-pinion steering results in more direct response when cornering hard, assisted by the new AMG Ride Control suspension, which also offers a smooth ride in comfort mode. Even the ESP system can be adjusted, from "On", to "Sport", to "Off".
