Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the new AMG GT. The car has now can be had as a 2+2, and offers a maximum of 577bhp, now put to the road via an all-wheel drive system.
What has been retained from the previous AMG GT however, is its compact and powerful design. A long wheelbase, short overhangs, long and low bonnet, as well as a steeply raked windscreen all continue to contribute to exciting proportions in this GT.
Design highlights at the front of the car include a deep and wide grille which is flanked at either end with head lights that feature the Mercedes 'three dot' light signet. And at the rear, the car gets a large tailgate, which leads to a low and rounded rear that houses slim taillights as well as an active, deployable spoiler.
In the cabin, the AMG GT gets a horizontally oriented 11.9‑inch multimedia touchscreen just as we saw in the AMG SL.
The electrically adjustable AMG sports seats with integrated headrests here can be upholstered in either one or two-tone Nappa leather, although customers may also opt for Manufaktur Nappa leather with diamond quilting or a combination of Nappa leather and microfibre with yellow or red contrast stitching.
The optional rear seats can fold down to expand available luggage space in the AMG GT from 321 to 675 litres
Mercedes states that the seats at the rear will be suitable for those up to 1.5m tall.
Under that long bonnet of the AMG GT sits a 4.0-litre V8. Those that opt for the AMG GT63 will get a total of 577bhp and 800Nm of torque from this engine, allowing the 2+2 to hit 100km/h from standstill in just 3.2 seconds.
A 469bhp AMG GT55 is also offered, which produces maximum torque of 700Nm. This car will take 3.9 seconds to complete the century sprint.
Both the AMG GT63 and GT55 come with a nine-speed multi-clutch transmission as well as AMG's Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system. An electronically controlled locking differential at the rear axle also comes as standard, to optimise available traction for the rear wheels.
Further aiding handling here is Mercedes-AMG's Active Ride Control system, which utilises adaptive shock absorbers as well as active hydraulic elements in place of a conventional mechanical anti-roll bars.
