Lotus has unveiled a Type 136, a new performance road bicycle that features the lightest e-bike motor available from lightweight bicycle manufacturer HPS.
The new bicycle is said to combine years of engineering excellence and design with present day technology, and utilises an aerodynamic design inspired by Lotus' gold medal-winning success in Olympic velodromes around the world.
Only 136 examples of the first edition Type 136 bicycle will be made, all individually numbered and featuring a motorsport livery
The Type 136 is handmade in Italy and utilises a carbon fibre frame allowing it to weigh in at just 9.8kg. This frame features V-shaped handlebars, wing-shaped forks, and vaulted chain stays, all of which aid it to carve through the air efficiently.
The bicycle additionally carries a battery, disguised as a water bottle, that can be detached from the frame with the push of a button. This battery powers a e-bike motor from HPS that weighs just 0.3kg. This motor is housed within a bottom bracket shell that is seamlessly integrated into the bike's frame.
An exclusive first edition Type 136 will be offered at launch that will be limited to just 136 examples. These will be individually numbered and available in an iconic motorsport livery. Standard examples of the bicycle will go on sale come early 2024.
