Hyundai Motor's close-to-production i30 N, the first model from Hyundai's high-performance sub-brand N, was entered into the Veranstaltergemeinschaft Langstreckenpokal Nurburgring (VLN) endurance race on Saturday, 8th April 2017. The race is used as preparation for the infamous ADAC Zurich 24-hour race at the Nuburgring, which takes place from 25th to 28th May 2017.
Hyundai Motor engineers from Namyang, South Korea, and European R&D centres will help hone the car's performance characteristics ahead of its global launch later this year. The endurance race - held at the world-famous Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany - provides the opportunity for Hyundai Motor to extensively test the i30 N, which features technical specifications very close to the actual production car. The i30 N will go up against heavily modifed cars from other manufacturers to cope with the demands of the VLN race.
The two cars that Hyundai Motor will enter into the race are equipped with 2.0-litre turbocharged engines and six-speed manual transmissions - the same powertrain that will be used in the production i30 N. As they race the cars, Hyundai Motor engineers will identify areas for further refinement and potential performance enhancements for the i30 N.
