Komoco Motors Pte Ltd has officially launched the new Kona here in Singapore, after it first offered members of the media an early preview of the car on 14 July 2023.
The car is arriving here firstly as a hybrid, although its all-electric variant is also scheduled to arrive here at a later date. The hybrid makes use of a 1.6-litre engine paired to a 43bhp electric motor, allowing the car to deliver a system total of 129bhp and 265Nm of torque. Stated fuel economy for the Hyundai Kona with this drivetrain is 21.3km/L.
But what will really impress with this new Kona, is its exterior.
Up front, the car gets Hyundai's futuristic Seamless Horizon Lamps that stretch across the width of the car, just we first saw on the Hyundai Staria. Boldly sculpted wheel arch cladding also match the 18-inch parametric design rims, and the clean front end to give the Hyundai added visual ruggedness.
This new body also gives the Hyundai Kona more space than its predecessor. Aided by a wheelbase that has been extended by 60mm (to a total of 2,660mm) over its predecessor, this new Hyundai Kona is said to offer a total of 77mm increased leg room for rear passengers. Head room has also been increased by 11mm for those seated at the rear.
And for those seated at the front, the Hyundai Kona now places its column-type gear selector behind the steering wheel, freeing up space on the centre console for additional storage and cupholders.
Those at the front will additionally be able to utilise the Kona's 12.3-inch integrated dual screen display, all while resting seats which have been optimised for 'weightless' body pressure distribution to help alleviate fatigue after long-haul driving.
At the rear, a powered tailgate opens up to a 466-litre boot, although total cargo space can be expanded to 1,300 litres by folding down the second row seats.
The Hyundai Kona Hybrid is available here in a total of eight exterior colours: Abyss Black, Atlas White, Cyber Grey Metallic, Ecotronic Grey Pearl, Ultimate Red Metallic, Neoteric Yellow, Mirage Green, Meta Blue Pear.
