Honda has revealed the first details of its new all-electric SUV after first presenting its e:Ny1 electric crossover in June 2023.
Called the 'Prologue', the car is said to have been designed by the Honda Design Studio in Los Angeles, and gets a sleek silhouette coupled with what Honda terms is a 'neo-rugged' exterior.
Don't let this design fool you, however. This Honda Prologue measures a total of 4,879mm long and 1,988mm wide, placing it closer in size to the Honda Passport (or shorter but wider than an Audi Q7) than any Honda crossover we are familiar with here. The car will also be available with 21-inch wheels, said to the largest ever offered on a Honda.
The car will arrive in the U.S.A with a newly designed Honda name badge in a stylised typeface, and also gets a new 'e:' series badging.
Inside, the car mirrors the design direction Honda has adopted for its Civic, Accord and HR-V, with clean and simple sleek horizontal lines and an emphasis on quality material use as well as large buttons and knobs.
Here, the Honda Prologue also gets a steering column mounted drive selector, opening space on the centre console, which additionally is a two-tiered item for more storage space. This console also houses a multi-use tray that can sit two smartphones side-by-side. A space-saving pocket-type wireless smartphone charger also comes as standard in the U.S.A.
The SUV will also come with an 11-inch digital driver's instrument cluster paired with an 11.3-inch infotainment system that comes with Google built-in as standard. This system will give users access to Google apps including Google Assistant and Google Maps. The system will also support smartphone pairing via wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Features including seat heating and ventilation, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, a Bose premium audio system as well as an eight-way power driver’s seat with two-way power lumbar support are also available in the Prologue in the U.S.A depending on the selected trim level.
The Prologue is set to be available in the U.S.A in two variants. The first, comes with all-wheel drive thanks to a dual motor arrangement that sees is offering an estimated 284bhp alongside 451Nm of torque. A front-wheel drive single motor variant will also be offered, although Honda has not yet officially revealed the power output of this variant.
The electric SUV will come with an 85kWh lithium-ion battery pack that can be charged at a maximum speed of 155kW, allowing an additional 104km of range to be added in just 10 minutes of charging.
