The 1939 Ford 91A V8 that featured in the movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit, is heading to auction.
The car is said to have rolled off the production line in the U.S.A in 1939, and made its way to the U.K. in the 1960s. It received a restoration whilst spending time in a museum before making its movie screen debut in 1988, where its art deco style body ensured it would be the perfect prop in the fictional Toontown, the setting of the movie.
The car has undergone a bare-metal respray in the mid-80s ahead of its silver screen debut, and its paint is described as being in excellent condition. It also sports its original Ford flathead V8, although this engine now comes with an uprated Edelbrock intake and a larger aluminium radiator to enhance both performance and reliability. A comprehensive file of paperwork, bills and MOTs, as well as an original Ford De Luxe instruction booklet all also come with the car.
Set in 1947, Who Framed Roger Rabbit was filmed in London. The Ford appeared in multiple scenes in the film as well as its promotional material alongside Actor Bob Hoskins. The movie was considered cutting edge at the time for its mix of live action with animation and went on to win a total of four Academy Awards.
