Durapower adds electric AGVs to PSA Tuas Port fleet

The PSA Singapore Tuas Port has welcomed 54 all-electric Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), powered by Durapower batteries, to their operations fleet. This forms part of PSA's plan to deploy about 200 electric AGVs by 2023, as Tuas Port progressively ramps up its capacity. Durapower's battery systems power approximately 60 percent of the port's AGV fleet.
Durapower Holdings Pte Ltd, a Singaporean Lithium-ion battery manufacturer, had clinched the PSA Tuas Port AGV battery tender earlier this year. The AGVs were commissioned after Durapower completed testing of its 266kWh Battery Energy Storage System ("BESS") with a third-party AGV manufacturer.
The successful launch builds on Durapower's ongoing efforts to advance global port decarbonisation. "This latest award is a testament to our customers and port businesses' confidence in the quality, our products, in terms of performance, track record and safety, for heavy duty, specialty commercial electric vehicles that operate under strenuous conditions,” said Mr. Kelvin Lim, Chief Executive Officer of Durapower Group.
He added that the Group will continue to leverage their technical capability and innovation to advance powerful and efficient clean energy solutions to the world.
Capable of cutting emissions by almost half, Durapower's electric AGVs are key to Tuas Port's goal to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. Durapower's customised durable, high power battery solutions are engineered to withstand heavy loads and extreme operating conditions. The batteries also minimise operational downtime owing to their fast-charging feature.
Since 2012, Durapower has been collaborating with PSA on pioneering port automation and vehicle electrification. Durapower had supplied high-power lithium battery systems for two hybrid diesel-electric AGVs to facilitate PSA's research and development at Pasir Panjang Terminal.
The company has since continued to supply high performance EV battery systems as PSA transition from using hybrid diesel-electric AGVs to fully electric ones. Durapower designs, manufactures, supplies, and commissions the battery solutions for the AGV fleet. It has been working with PSA to extend the life cycle of the batteries through initiatives such as second-life battery technology for energy storage systems.
Globally, Durapower battery solutions are used in logistics parks, airports, seaports, and other industrial applications. These fuel heavy vehicles - the backbone of commerce and industry - which bear the responsibility of heavy-lifting operations.
