The Leng Kee automotive belt has officially welcomed yet another Chinese name onto the scene, with the grand opening of the Deepal showroom at 281 Alexandra Road on Thursday afternoon (27 March 2025), as well as the official launch of the Deepal S07 SUV, which was first teased at the 2025 Singapore Motor Show. As previously mentioned, the brand is represented by Premium Automobiles locally, which already takes charge of two other buzz-filled electric Chinese names: Zeekr and Xpeng.
Officially established by state-owned auto giant Changan Automobile in 2022, Deepal marks the latest contender aiming to muscle in on the 'premium electric' arena. The brand has underscored 'intelligent and sustainable mobility' as its key focus, even as it continues to be backed by the industry expertise of one of China's largest carmakers.
The opening of the new Deepal showroom and market launch of the S07 come as part of Deepal's official arrival in Singapore
Though its international expansion only began in 2023, Deepal has also already established a presence in six markets thus far, including Australia and Thailand, with Singapore holding the honour of being only the second country in the Southeast Asian region to receive it. The brand has also already outlined plans to bring six models to our market within the next three years.
Housed on the second level of the building, the new Deepal showroom was designed in line with the brand's ethos of embracing the future, with the pillar-wrapped LED screens all over standing out as a particular highlight. Visitors can also look forward to a private consultation area and premium lounge, a kid-friendly play area, and an in-house Deepal cafe. Evincing the sheer expanse on offer, the brand states that up to 12 vehicles can be displayed here.
With Premium Automobiles already looking towards the future, the showroom is further complemented by a service centre on Basement 2 that aims to provide future owners with what has been described to be a "seamless ownership experience".
As an introduction to Deepal's premium intelligent vision, its torch-bearing model here makes a striking first impression.
Priced in the low $200,000 range at launch (inclusive of COE), the S07 is a mid-size electric SUV that promises a good mixture of space, luxury and tech.
In place of curves and softer edges, the car's sheet metal slants more towards angularity, with 'star' motifs - in the form of its 'starleaf' head lights and 'star-flame through' tail lamps - adding extra sparkle. At the same time, all that style doesn't sacrifice practicality. With its 2,900mm wheelbase, the S07 is claimed to boast one of the most spacious rear benches in its class, with a 445-litre boot right behind. Added utility comes in the form of vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality.
A 2,900mm wheelbase and flat floor mean passengers should be very comfortable in the rear of the S07; a 445-litre boot also adds to the car's practicality
True to its promise of intelligence, the S07 also impresses from behind the wheel.
Arguably the most charming feature is the voice-responsive 15.6-inch 'Sunflower' infotainment touchscreen - named as such because of its ability to tilt either towards the driver or towards the front passenger depending on who happens to be operating it. Another standout feature is the car's large augmented reality head-up display, which can incorporate navigation information and comes with anti-shake tech.
On the move, the S07 should offer more than enough power and range for the average Singaporean motorist. A single motor sends 160kW and 320Nm of torque to the rear wheels, while a 79.97kWh battery gives the car up to 475km of range on a full charge. At a maximum rate of 92kW with a DC outlet, the car's battery can also be recharged from 30 to 80% in just 35 minutes.
Cheery highlight: This voice-operated 15.6-inch 'Sunflower Touchscreen' can tilt itself towards either the driver or front passenger
Furthermore, the S07 is equipped with a full suite of driving assistance systems, which extend beyond standard offerings like adaptive cruise control and blind spot detection to include even Traffic Jam Assist and Lane Change Assist. Its safety credentials are boosted by a full five-star Euro NCAP crash rating.
While the S07 may be the only offering from Deepal right now, the showroom currently has two other models on display that provide fascinating glimpses into the brand's wider product range (the two models are anticipated to be launched in the later part of this year).
Arguably the most intriguing machine visitors will find here is the E07 - which might initially strike you as a muscular coupe-SUV, but actually reveals itself to be an electric pickup replete with a rear flatbed and an electric tonneau cover. The other half of the duo - the S05 - is a compact electric SUV that sits below the S07 in size and positioning.
The E07 - not confirmed for Singapore yet (though showcased in right-hand drive form) - is a cross between a coupe-SUV and electric ute
Speaking at the event, Mr Hadi Widjaja, President of Premium Automobiles Group, referred to the launch of the Deepal showroom as an "exciting milestone in [the Group's] portfolio to redefine mobility through intelligent and sustainable solutions". He also noted the increasing uptake of electric cars in Singapore, noting that at 43%, the proportion of new EV registrations had surpassed that of hybrid cars in February.
Also in attendance at the event was Mr Shen Xing Hua, Managing Director of Changan Auto Southeast Asia, who expressed his faith in Singapore as a "strategic launchpad for the region", stating: "Deepal is poised to be a world-class automotive brand."
To commemorate its grand arrival in Singapore, Deepal Singapore will host an Open House Weekend at its new Level 2 space from 29 to 30 March 2025 (Saturday and Sunday). The exciting programme lined up includes DIY sustainability-focused activities such as the chance to print one's own personalised tote bags, and to upcycle plastic waste into car key tags and coasters.
The grand opening of the Deepal showroom now also brings the 'makeover' of 281 Alexandra Road - formerly Audi Centre Singapore - to completion. With Deepal on Level 2, and Xpeng on Level 1, the Premium Automobiles-operated building stands as a new-age showcase of some of China's most powerful names in the electric arena.
The Deepal S07 is now on sale in Singapore, and will come with a five-year car warranty and 10-year battery warranty.
