On a cool Friday evening (14 March 2025), set in the middle of the bustling Orchard area, perched on the (open-air) second level, were two new additions to the Lion City's automotive scene. A light drizzle threatened to put a damper on things, but the weather held up its end of the bargain, and so did Spanish performance brand, Cupra.
The name's Born, Cupra Born. The hatchback was the first of two all-electric models launched on the night, with an energetic dance performance preluding the unveiling of the Tavascan coupe-SUV minutes later.
As Cupra's first all-electric model, the Born is available in two variants: The e-Boost and the VZ.
With the Born built on the Volkswagen Group's MEB modular electric drive platform, the entry-level e-Boost variant has a maximum power output of 170kW (228bhp), with its high-performance 59kWh battery delivering a WLTP range of up to 428km. Any concerns about its charging capabilities can be quashed, as 100km of additional range can be delivered in as little as seven minutes. In addition, DC charging allows its battery to go from 10% to 80% in just under 30 minutes.
Additionally, the Born e-Boost sports an aggressive yet refined front end thanks to its lighting style, bonnet contours, and framing of the Cupra badge. In its driver-focused cabin, the standard bucket seats are made of Dinamica, a durable and high-quality material. It sports a 12.9-inch infotainment screen, a seven-speaker sound system, as well as wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto.
On to the next variant: The more powerful Born VZ. It offers 240kW (322bhp) of power and 545Nm of torque, with an impressive WLTP range of up to 599km. Its improved suspension setting geometry, sports-tuned steering, and brake feel are said to make it one of the most dynamic cars in its segment.
Other highlights of the Born VZ include Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) sport, "Tornado" 20-inch forged alloy wheels, Enceladus Grey Sabelt Cup bucket seats, and a 10-speaker Sennheiser sound system.
It's Tavascan, not Tavascannot. As Cupra's first all-electric coupe-SUV, it is also built on the MEB platform and is offered in two variants: The Endurance and the VZ.
One notable aesthetic feature of the model is that the Cupra badge on its bonnet, as well as the undersides of its front grille, are illuminated. The Tavascan Endurance comes with a single motor that sends 210kW (282bhp) and 545Nm of torque to the rear wheels, and is also capable of a WLTP range of up to 568km thanks to its lithium-ion battery.
In comparison, the range-topping Tavascan VZ has a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup that gives it an impressive 335bhp and 545Nm of torque. Stepping up to the VZ variant also unlocks extra performance-oriented goodies including selectable chassis setups through its DCC Sport system, progressive steering, and tyres housing 21-inch alloy wheels.
Powered by the same 77kWh battery as the Endurance variant, this more powerful (and thus 'thirstier') VZ has a slightly lower WLTP range of 521km on a full charge.
Digitalisation is also at the heart of the Tavascan VZ: It integrates a highly customisable 15-inch infotainment system and what Cupra has claimed to be a newly-developed Human Machine Interface for the brand. Additional interior features include a 12-speaker Sennheiser system and a panoramic glass roof.
The all-new Cupra model lineup can now be viewed at Cupra Centre Singapore. Prospective customers can also check the lineup out at Cupra Singapore's first-ever roadshow at VivoCity, which kicks off on 17 March 2025, and look forward to perks such as an eight-year battery warranty, eight years of roadside assistance, eight years of free servicing, and a five-year car warranty. Furthermore, complimentary solar film, in-car camera, and free first year road tax will be provided for its owners.*
