BMW has pulled the covers off the new M2 Racing. Based on the M2 road car, the M2 Racing represents the new entry-point racecar, offering private customer teams a more accessible point of entry into the world of motorsport.
Where private customer teams previously had the choice of the M4 GT3 EVO and M4 GT4 EVO, the new M2 Racing seeks to offer a more cost-effective option - both in terms of a lower purchasing cost, as well as lower operating costs.
Powering the M2 Racing is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 308bhp and 420Nm of torque, with power sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed ZF transmission. The car features motorsport-specific KW shock absorbers based on the technology found on the GT3 racecars, adjustable motorsport anti-rolls bars front and rear, BMW M Compound brake discs and callipers, motorsport-specific brakes pads, and BMW M Motorsport-specific brake air cooling.
The car is based on the chassis of the current generation M2, but features numerous upgrades to have it race-ready. These include a welded safety roll cage (compliant with FIA regulations), a lightweight roof, front splitter, a Sabelt GT-AM seat, FIA-homologated fuel cell, as well as a FIA-standard fire extinguisher. On the electronics front, the M2 Racing has BMW M Motorsport-specific drive modes and 10-stage M Traction Control, a pit speed limiter, adjustable power levels, air-conditioning, and also features the dashboard from the road car, but adapted for racing use.
Keen customers also have a range of additional options to choose from, including a rear wing, data logger, a Sabelt GT-PRO driver seat package, an air jack system, and endurance lights, among others.
The new BMW M2 Racing is expected to make its racing debut in the 2026 racing season, with BMW expecting to see it used in various national and international sprint series, as well as endurance events including the likes of the 24 Hours of Nurburgring.
