Audi is expanding its all-electric SUV lineup with a new Q6 e-tron, designed to sit between the Q8 e-tron we recently tested and the Q4 e-tron, the Sportback variant of which we saw at the 2024 Singapore Motor Show.
The new car sits atop the firm's PPE (short for Premium Platform Electric) platform which has been co-developed with Porsche and also underpins the Porsche Macan. This new platform allows the Q6 e-tron to carry a battery with a net capacity of 94.9kWh, which facilitates a range of 625km. It powers a permanent magnet synchronous motor on the rear axle and an asynchronous motor on the front axle of the Q6 e-tron quattro, allowing the car to deliver a system total output of 382bhp.
The taillights of the Audi Q6 e-tron make use of a new generation digital OLED technology, and can display warning symbols to other road users
Those looking for more power still, however, will be able to opt for the Audi SQ6 e-tron. Equipped with the same 94.9kWh battery, this model gets uprated electric motors to deliver a system total output of 510bhp, which will see the car completing the century sprint in just 4.3 seconds - placing it just above the Mercedes-AMG EQE43 SUV, which gets a 469bhp output and a WLTP range of 488km from its 90.6kWh battery. The Audi SQ6 e-tron also beats the Mercedes with an official range of 598km.
Charging either Audi model can be done at speeds of up to 270kW, allowing a 10% to 80% state-of-charge top up to be done in 21 minutes.
Those shopping at the other end of the lineup will be able to purchase more efficient rear-wheel drive variants of the Q6 e-tron, although more details about these variants will only be revealed by Audi at a later date.
Being built atop the PPE has also allowed the Audi Q6 e-tron to sport a long wheelbase alongside short overhangs, which the firm has utilised to give the SUV what it states is a powerful and dynamic package.
Up front, the car's Singleframe "grille" (not unlike that found on the Q8 e-tron) can be had with either a selenite silver or gloss black surround, while further back, Audi has imparted the car with gently sloping D-pillars that flow into muscular shoulders.
The Audi Q6 e-tron also features a new, second generation digital OLED technology, said to be able to generate a new image every 10 milliseconds thanks to a total of six OLED panels with a total of 360 segments, all governed by a specially developed algorithm. This new lighting technology means owners can now choose between a total of eight digital light signatures for their car, and the technology can also warn other road users in advance of accidents or obstacles on the road ahead.
Jump into the cabin and these same owners will find the Audi Q6 e-tron equipped with a new MMI panoramic display, comprising of an 11.9-inch digital instrument display and a 14.5-inch curved infotainment touchscreen, both designed to mimic the shape of the car's grille up front. The car is additionally equipped with an additional 10.9-inch touchscreen for the front passenger.
An Augmented Reality Head-Up Display will also be available with the Q6 e-tron, which will display relevant driving information such as vehicle speed, traffic signs, and navigation symbols, all appearing to float up to 200m ahead of the driver. The display diagonal of this this technology is said to measure a total of 88 inches when viewed from the driver's position. An Audi Assistant self-learning voice assistant which can make proactive suggestions and learn user routines also features in the Q6 e-tron.
And at the back, users will be able to utilise the total 526 litres of space offered in the trunk, which expands to a total of 1,529 litres with the rear bench folded down. The Audi Q6 e-tron also comes with a 64-litre frunk under its front bonnet.
The new Audi Q6 e-tron is set to be manufactured at the firm's Gyor plant in Hungary and will be launched in Germany and other European countries from the third quarter of 2024.
