Porsche and Vitra partner on Pepita-inspired chairs

A new collaboration has been announced in the wake of Porsche's latest The Art of Dreams installation and it involves... a chair.
Or rather, three types of chairs if we're being specific. Produced by Vitra, the limited edition furniture-cum-art pieces will all be upholstered in Porsche's iconic Pepita fabric: A houndstooth pattern made up of small squares connected by diagonal stripes.
Coming under an official product partnership between both firms, dubbed Porsche Pepita Edition by Vitra, the future classics were unveiled at Milan's The Art of Dreams event, which is currently taking place at the Palazzo Clerici from 16 to 21 April 2024.
First introduced as an official option in a Porsche 911 in 1965, the Pepita pattern remains a cult favourite with its most recent appearance being on the 2022 911 Sport Classic, the second of the Heritage Design collector's items.
The Porsche Pepita Edition by Vitra includes three distinct types of pieces: The Eames Plastic Side Chair Pepita Edition, the ID Trim L Pepita Edition and the Petit Repos Pepita Edition. The latter two are modern chairs designed by Antonio Citterio, a Milanese architect and designer.
Eames Plastic Side Chair Pepita Edition intertwines function and design with precise production and high quality materials.
The seat shell has been adapted to the contours of the body, offering comfortable support, while its largely white body is contrasted by the Porsche Pepita fabric on the seat and backrest.
The base, on the other hand, is made of black maple wood, with Basic Dark tubes rounding off the look. On a more practical end, felt glides can be found on the feet, preventing scratches on hard floors. Each chair costs approximately $1,321 (€911), with only 1,963 units earmarked for production.
Similar to the Eames Plastic Side Chair Pepita Edition, the ID Trim L Pepita Edition office chair is also fitted with the Porsche Pepita fabric. The adjustable lumbar support can be adapted to suit individual needs. Finishing off the design is the leather headrest covers, embossed in the Porsche crest.
The inclination and seat depth can be adjusted due to the flow motion mechanism. With only 911 units made, each unit will be priced at approximately $2,771 (€1,911).
The Petit Repos Pepita Edition completes the collection, with its original Pepita upholstery providing outstanding comfort. On top of that, the double stitching adds design accents while the underside is in Basic Dark. Only 99 units will be made, each costing approximately $5,671 (€3,911).
On top of the design and production of the chairs, there is another aspect to this product partnership, the print adverts. The campaign focused on images by Jonas Lindstroem whose creative idea is based around the repetitive nature of the Pepita Pattern. Lindstroem uses this geometry to create his own graphic patterns with Vitra furniture and Porsche models.
Each of these chairs is on public display for the first time as part of The Art of Dreams event. The chairs can be purchased from 22 April 2024, on both the Porsche Shop and Porsche Design Online Shop.
