Sitting on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea and just below the French Alps, Nice isn't just about its beautiful landscapes. It's a city etched with a rich sense of culture and tradition in history as well as art. It's also the place that Porsche has decided to organise its global media drive of its all new all-electric Porsche Macan.
Representing an expansion of the Porsche range in the field of electromobility, this is the first all-electric compact SUV from Porsche. The current all-electric models in Porsche's lineup include the Taycan, as well as its derivative, the Taycan Cross Turismo.
Like the Taycan, the Porsche Macan EV features 800V technology and is based on the Porsche Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture. Said architecture is exclusively designed for battery electric drive systems and is developed in conjunction with Audi AG, allowing for flexibility and efficiency.
At the launch here in Nice, France, two variants are available - the Macan 4 as well as the Macan Turbo. With both variants powered by a 100kWh lithium-ion battery, the Macan 4 and the Turbo have a combined WLTP range of 613km and 591km respectively on paper. Real-world driving range remains to be confirmed when the drive happens tomorrow.
What we can confirm for now is that the Porsche Macan 4 has the ability to churn out some 402bhp and 650Nm of torque, allowing it to complete the century sprint in 5.2 seconds. The juicier Macan Turbo, on the other hand, will produce a whopping 630bhp and a mind-boggling 1,130Nm of torque from the word go, allowing it to hit the 100km/h mark from nought in just 3.3 seconds.
When it comes to functionality, the Macan EV does not disappoint, too. At close to 4.8m long, the new Porsche EV is 58mm longer than the regular Macan, which results in a wheelbase that's 86mm longer. Thus, rear passengers can expect more legroom.
Plus, the Macan 4 has a reasonable boot space of 540 litres, which can be expanded to 1,348 litres with the seats folded. In contrast, the Turbo variant has a smaller 480 litres, and will increase a couple of notches to 1,288 litres, if necessary. Both variants sport an 84-litre frunk space.
From the driver's sporty seat, you get a 12.6-inch curved instrument cluster, with a 10.9-inch infotainment system taking centre stage. Everywhere else on the inside looks and feels like a proper sports SUV.
Speaking of being a proper sports SUV, the all-new Macan EV looks every bit like a Porsche - sporty, aggressive and instantly recognisable. For instance, the car now sports the brand's signature four-point head lights with Matrix LED technology, flared fenders, and sideblades that have always been associated with the Macan.
Walk around the car and you'll also notice several modern and sleek features on the car such as its frameless doors, taillight strip spanning the width of the rear as well as the make and model moniker that appear three-dimensional.
The all-electric Porsche Macan is open for orders now but it'll only arrive on our shores at the end of the year. The Macan 4 will set you back $254,888 while the Macan Turbo will cost you $388,088. Both prices exclude COE.
